Luis Gonzalez becomes Triple Play spokesperson
Electronic Arts signs the Diamondbacks' Gonzalez as the game's official cover athlete.
Electronic Arts has signed Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez as the official cover athlete for its upcoming game Triple Play 2002. Gonzalez, who provided the game-winning hit in game seven of the World Series against the New York Yankees, will appear on all packaging and merchandising for the game. Triple Play 2002 will feature a variety of enhancements over last year's game, including 3D scanned faces of Major League players on their virtual models and signature batting and pitching styles. NBC's Bob Costas and ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst Harold Reynolds will provide commentary in the game.
"I'm very excited to be involved with EA Sports and Triple Play 2002," said Gonzalez. "It's two dream come trues in one year for me because every kid's dream is to be in game seven of the World Series and get the game-winning hit, and now I'm on the cover of Triple Play 2002. It's exciting, and I know all my teammates and video game players all over are going to see me on the cover, so it's definitely a thrill."
Triple Play 2002 will be released for the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox in spring 2002.
