Paul dunks NBA 2K8 cover
Likeness of New Orleans Hornets' point man will grace boxes of 2K Sports' latest basketball game.
The problem with being named cover athlete for 2K Sports' annual pro basketball game is you've got guys like Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson hogging the limelight. Allen Iverson's mug became synonymous with 2K's brand of basketball from the game's 1999 inception, being named cover boy for five straight years up until Ben Wallace's one-time stint in ESPN NBA 2K5.
"Daddy Diesel" repeated his cover star appearance for NBA 2K7 after having honored his NBA 2K6 cover placement by making off with Larry O'Brien's championship trophy. Fortunately for the rest of the NBA's superstars, the Miami Heat were dealt a clean sweep during the first round of this year's playoff run, and 2K has sent the Shaq-man packing.
Today, 2K Sports has announced that its new cover star will be New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul. The Wake Forest alum marked his 2006 NBA debut by leading his freshman class in points, assists, steals, and minutes played, earning him 2006 Rookie of the Year honors and the distinction of being the only player unanimously named to the 2005-2006 NBA All-Rookie First Team. Paul is also slated to appear on Team USA's basketball roster for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Set for release this fall, NBA 2K8 will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2. It has not yet been rated or priced.
