Jeter gets MLB 2K cover three-peat

New York Yankees captain slides onto cover of 2K Sports' MLB 2K7; game slated for "late winter" release on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox, PS2, PSP.

Accolades are nothing new to the storied New York Yankees. However, for a team so used to winning (and spending so much money), the team is going through a major drought. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner can at least take solace in one thing--his players own the covers of the 2K series of baseball games.

Though the series has undergone different publishers (Sega, 2K Sports), different developers (Visual Concepts, Kush Games, Blue Shift), and different names (World Series Baseball, ESPN Major League Baseball, and Major League Baseball), the past five years have seen the familiar overlapping NY on the cover. Jason Giambi covered the 2003 and 2004 editions of the series, and Derek Jeter covered 2005, 2006, and now 2007.

2K Sports today confirmed that the Yankees captain and All-Star shortstop will be the cover athlete and spokesperson for the annual baseball game for the third year in a row. In 2006, Jeter batted .343 and won his third consecutive Gold Glove.

Major League Baseball 2K7 will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable in "late winter." 2K Sports will release more information on new features and enhancements to the game closer to the game's release. Until then, see how the game is shaping up with GameSpot's recent preview.

I' m a Red Sox fan, and I think that Manny Ramirez should have been on the cover, but I understand why Jeter is on the front: consistency.

Anyone who says Derek Jeter sucks has a mental retardation. No lie. Jeter is 3 time gold glove winner (in a row), 7 time all-star, World Series MVP, and has 4 (count them) 4 WORLD CHAMPION RINGS!!!!! But he probably shouldn't be on the cover 3 times in a row, I don't mind, but not everyone is a Yankee fan.

Jeter again? Jeter sucks and shouldn't be on the cover 3 times back to back. It's bad enough twice in a row. There are other players in the MLB. 2K Sports full of Yankee fans? This is complete full ****.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off, I am NOT a Yankees fan. I like the Phils, but secondly, are you kidding me? Not the way to run a ball club? How many serie's titles do the Yanks have? 26 or so? The A's have nowhere near that. Billy Beane has done a wonderful job w/ what he's had to work with. But, I still don't see any rings. The A's are perpetually "Next Year's" team.

If you want sexy you need to go with Ryan Howard or J-Roll for the cover. Maybe even Cole Hamels or Pat " The Bat". Basically any Philly player would do the job

Jeter is a phenominal player no doubt, but the yankees are a bunch of overpaid underachivers, the Red Sox have got them beat this year without contest. The best move they made was to lose the big fraud and that still wont help

Derek Jeter is one of the greatest baseball players and should have won MVP. Here is a clip of a great game for jeter http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/scripts/mediaplayer/mp_tpl.jsp?w_id=521136&w=2006/open/tp/archive10/100306_detnya_jeter_reel_tp_350.wmv&pid=mlb_tp&gid=2006/10/03/detmlb-nyamlb-1&mid=200610041698342&cid=mlb&fid=mlb_tp350&v=2&mType=w&urlstr=&murl=

The whole Red Sox and Yankees thing I think is terrible for the game of baseball. It only makes people that could be interested about baseball become less interested hearing a bunch of fanboys argue. I can't stand when they play each other because that's the only game shown on tv, and since they play each other more than any other teams play, they are on all the time. In reality both teams had a very average year and will probably have very average years next year. I hate the fact that Boston went and spent so much money on one pitcher (a terrible thing for the sport). Next years teams to watch won't be the Yankees and Red Sox. Fans next year will get the most entertainment by watching the AL central division. With the Tigers, Twins, White Sox, and Indians all making great strides to take the division. One of those teams will take the wild card away from the Yanks or Sox (either of which will make it to the series). Both teams have fans just spring up over night. I've been an Indians fan since the early ninty's from when they sucked, to went to be one of the best teams, to being one of the worst teams, to rebuilding themselves again. The Red Sox and Yankees have turned baseball into nothing but battle of bank accounts.

As for the game.....it better come out by the time pitchers and catchers report.
