Acclaim has announced that it has signed Hulk Hogan as the official spokesperson for its upcoming game Legends of Wrestling. The renowned wrestler will be featured prominently in the national marketing and advertising campaign for the game. In the game, Hogan will be joined by more than 40 wrestling legends, including Bret "Hitman" Hart, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, and George "The Animal" Steele.
"Hulk Hogan is known throughout the world as the most recognizable icon in the sports entertainment industry and is truly a living legend," said Steve Felsen, senior director of brand for Acclaim Entertainment. "We are thrilled to have him join our roster of superstars, who are poised to deliver one of the most exciting wrestling games ever for the next-generation systems."
"I'm proud to work again with Acclaim and be a part of Legends of Wrestling," Hogan said. "This game is testimony to the many talented wrestlers who have spent their entire careers entertaining generations of fans inside the squared circle."
Legends of Wrestling is being designed using a brand-new game engine developed by Acclaim's Salt Lake City studio. Among the primary features of the game are a create-a-legend mode where players can make their own wrestler, commentary by Lou Albano and Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart, and a so-called intermediate start position, which enables players to link moves together for single-button combinations. Legends of Wrestling will be released for the PlayStation 2 this fall. A GameCube version will be released shortly thereafter.
