UK Game Charts: October 15-21

Football Manager 2007 knocks FIFA 07 off the top spot; The Sims 2: Pets and Battlefield 2142 among other new entries.

Football Manager 2007 (Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007 in the US) has knocked FIFA 07 off the top spot in the UK All-Formats game chart--the game came straight in at number one, even though it wasn't supposed to be released this week.

There are a smorgasbord of new entries this week, all but one in the top 20: The Sims 2: Pets enters at number three, Battlefield 2142 storms in at seven, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent arrives at number five, and Destroy All Humans! 2 comes in at number 21.

UK developer Sports Interactive can give itself a pat on the back, because the company can now boast the top three fastest-selling games in the UK (based on the Chart Track panel), namely Championship Manager 4, Football Manager 2006, and Football Manager 2007.

Of course, all the new entries mean that some titles are going to head south--this week these include Scarface: The World Is Yours, down two spots to four; Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, down four places to nine; and Kingdom Hearts II, which sinks a whole 10 slots to 16.

Titles moving upward are few and far between this week--the only rising star in the top 20 is Ubisoft's Open Season, crawling up two spaces to 15. One other upwardly mobile game--The Sims 2: Glamour Stuff--is up two to 26. Cars is still spinning its wheels as the week's only non-mover at number eight.

This week will see the release of Rockstar Games' Canis Canem Edit, better known as Bully in the US. Other games due out include another football title--Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (known as Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 in the US). FIFA 07 is also being released on the Xbox 360, which might give it another bump up the charts. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon will be released this week, along with The Sims 2: Pets for the Nintendo DS.

Several things the American users need to know before yelling "ZOMG CHART SUCKZ"

Sports games are popular in the UK and they attract a lot of causal gamers.

The market for casual gamers in the UK is huge hence the high sales for The Sims, the DS and PS2 was well as lisenced games like Cars.

Lego Star Wars is awesome. Deal with it.

There is a large market for games targeted towards kids and families which also explains why Cars is doing well.

This is a combined chart. However if I remember correctly, the console listed is the one that got the most sales.

Once again the market for sports games in the UK is huge. I can imagine the Wii selling out very quicklyt purely due to Wii Sports.

There aren't a great deal of games on the 360 that appear to casuals. Couple that with the fact that we're still paying on average the equivalent of $550-600 for a 360 and that will explain why it hasn't really exploded over here.

I am ashamed to be a UK gamer. What kind of disaster of a top 10 is that. Am I the only one who has a quality collection of games in this country or what.

(Most recent purchase was Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence before that was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney) Fantastic games. Not the pile of garbage that sits above me.

What the hell, Cars is rubbish. Why do the people in the UK buy that game. I know I certainly didn't...

i live in the u.k and i am digusted about football games selling stupidly large amounts of copies, i have little intrest in a sport that involves 11 men running up and down a field for an hour and a half chasing a bit of plastic, let alone a game that people play of it, it's like watching paint dry. (hey, E.A, if your listening, there's a game idea, which you can cheat people out of their money every year), i just don't understand it

UK is loyal to PS2. Don't be surprised if this continues until PS3 comes out here.

Common boys... dont let BF2142 stay here with the rubbish Ea/DICE threw out this month, dont let it stay in the top 10 for long lads..... shoulda jus called it a MMOG due to the lazyness of SP support and the whole IGA situation....

For everyone saying "Only one 360 game?"...*sigh* I can't believe I have to say this again.

It is a multiformat chart! Meaning that if it says PS2, it also includes any other versions of that game on any other platform. So there were 5 360 games in the chart....if you add them up.

The only suprising thing about this is that Fifa 07 isnt first. Yes the UK is obsesed with football, but hey its a much more followed sport all over the world than American Football. I think the most poprular genre in the UK is sports.

Hold up. With all the people bringing up the fact that there's no 360 games on the charts doesn't mean that there not selling in the top 20. First off second off, wait tilll FEAR, GoW, Rainbow Six vegas, and DOA extreme 2. You'll see some 360 chart toping. And another thing Splinter Cell 4, is doing better than BattleField 2142 and Tigerwoods 07.
