Suikoden V Question

The game can't get past Sialeeds' first dialogue in the opening scene.How can I get past this?

I bought a slim PS2 because my old PS2 decided to kill itself. Anyway, when I start a new game or new game +, the game just freezes halfway through Sialeeds' first dialogue. I load an old save file and was able to finish the game but when I start a new game it always does that. Though it works with my friend's fat PS2. Any way to get past this?

Theres probably two things wrong that i can think of. You probably have a slight scratch or smug on the disk as well as something wrong with the disk reading sensor. This happened with one of my friends with the original suikoden. His wouldnt read it right but mine was ok (they were both fat but it doesnt seem to matter. i got a slim one now and it still works good, in fact better then the fat one) Anyway, clean the disk if you can and make sure theirs no dust in there. The slim ones sensor is kinda exposed when you open it so be careful.
