Full Metal Alchemist site opens
Game is based on Square Enix's TV anime series looms closer to release.
TOKYO--Square Enix has taken its Hagane no Renkin Jutsushi: Full Metal Alchemist site live. The title, an action role-playing game for the PlayStation 2, is based on the Square Enix manga series, which has also recently become a weekly TV anime show in Japan due to its rising popularity.
In Full Metal Alchemist, the main characters are two brothers who are on a journey to recover their lost bodies. The older brother is an alchemist named Edward Elric who lost an arm in an accident while trying out a forbidden spell. Edward also lost his little brother Alphonse in the accident, but managed to contain his brother's soul in a large piece of armor.
Full Metal Alchemist consists of two modes--a scenario mode featuring dialogue in a 2D game environment, and a 3D battle mode. In the battle mode, the player controls Edward, who has the ability to instantly create traps and weapons out of objects in the field. Alphonse is a powerful subcharacter, who follows Edward and fights accordingly to orders given by the player.
The official site to Full Metal Alchemist currently consists of a story section, character introductions, and battle examples. Hagane no Renkin Jutsushi: Full Metal Alchemist is scheduled to be released on December 25, at a price of 6,800 yen ($62).
