Final Fantasy XII ships 1.5 million

Latest role-playing game boasted largest day-one availability of any Square Enix title to date.

Like a particularly devastating "summon" spell, Square Enix bombarded North American retailers last week with 1.5 million copies of Final Fantasy XII. The publisher announced today that the mass shipment represents the largest day-one North American availability of any game in the publisher's history.

Final Fantasy XII set that record due in part to another Square Enix milestone. While it was far from the first Final Fantasy game Square Enix has released, Final Fantasy XII was the first time the publisher had ever set a concrete street date for one of its North American product launches. While all of the company's previous games shipped out on a certain date and gradually went on sale as the games arrived at different retailers over the course of a few days, Square Enix made sure all of its retail partners received their copies of Final Fantasy XII early and held onto them until the official October 31 release date.

Even if every last one of those copies has been sold, Square Enix still has a ways to go before the game duplicates the success it experienced overseas earlier this year. Final Fantasy XII has already racked up more than 2.4 million sales in Japan since its release there in March of this year. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's full review.

    my least fav ff game ever, i can't play it, it sucks so much. after 2 days i've got it listed no ebay. complete waste. it's like a final fantasy wanna be that stole the title. i can't explaine how much this game sucks for me. !

    Seriously, go buy this game now! The battle system is incredible and it feels really epic unlike the linear ffx. I have completed ff7 ff8 ff9 ff10 but ff12 is my favourite.

    To those who say they won't play XII because it's not on PS3:

    How many of you are praising/comparing it to earlier FFs? You do know that those are on consoles at least 2 generations old, right?

    On a separate note...
    How many other people are not able to watch the Music interview on the CE?

    Get_shorty should really try to play Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.... that is my least favorite. Dang I remember when I wanted that game soooo bad, then I got it and played it, and forced myself to beat it... gosh memories....

    Anyways, FFXII exceeded my expectations! This game is so awesome! I liked FFXI, even though it took FOREVER to get a party ( I was a Monk....) What I liked about it was the battle system. This game plays like a MMORPG without the massive multiplayer online part hahahahaha.. I was skeptical of the battle system before, but this game kicks so much @$$

    I here that, us in the UK gotta wait, and since it'll probably be puished back furthur anyway. It sucks that we have to wait for it to be translated into European languages that we don't care about when people in England, funnily enough speak English.

    I agree with the FF7 and FF6 parts. But seriously, what have you been smoking for the Mystic Quest? Mystic Quest is like "watered down" Final Fantasy. In many ways it is even crappier than FFX-2 (the only substandard FF in recent history)
