Final Fantasy XIV confirmed for PS3, PC

E3 2009: Second massively multiplayer installment in Square Enix role-playing franchise set for simultaneous worldwide launch in four languages.

LOS ANGELES--Earlier today at Sony's E3 media briefing, the console giant dropped the bomb that Final Fantasy XIV would arrive next year as a "PlayStation 3 console exclusive." Square Enix followed up on that today by confirming that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game would also be appearing on the PC.

Both versions of the game are set for a simultaneous worldwide release sometime in 2010. Additionally, the game will support four different languages at launch: Japanese, English, German, and French. Beyond that, the only detail imparted by the publisher was that the game would take place in the realm of Eorzea.

Final Fantasy XIV will be the second installment in the long-running role-playing game to take on the MMORPG genre. The first such game, Final Fantasy XI, debuted on the PC in 2003 and found its way to the PlayStation 2 the next year. An Xbox 360 edition followed in 2006. In a unique twist, the game allowed players from all three platforms to play together in the same gameworld.

I can't wait for this game. I loved FFXI.

I tried FFXI, but as a 30-something female, I found the game to be crawling with teenagers. They were all polite to me and helped, but they had a lot more time to spend leveling up, so I could never really get too far without dying on the side of the road. ;P

Anyway, I will buy XII and Versus and Agito. But the XIV may be a tough sell for me.

I've never tried an MMO but this is just too incredible looking to miss. I can't wait. For a game that looks this good ... I'll gladly give up my social life. Good-bye to all my friends.

God, why do they have to make another MMORPG and put the name "Final Fantasy" on it?
This could be called "Eorzea Online" or whatever, but no, they have to be appealing and wasting an FF "number" with an MMORPG. ¬¬"

Same for FFXI, and FFXII, although being a great RPG, shouln't have been called a Final Fantasy.

Well, I'll just wait for FFXIII, which I believe is going to be a great game.

FFXI is profitable ATM for Square so I'm sure they won't dumb the old users so fast for FFXIV. It isn't easy to make a successful MMO these days. If anything, I would expect Square to be bringing the game out on as many platforms as possible.

Hope they will add some good PVP in there.

Connect! On has a nice summary of the current information on FFXIV. Check it out at Final Fantasy XIV Fan, it's at the front page. It's a rather long read, but well worth it.

I think FFXIV will blow people out of the water. FFXI was already great, but admittedly it had some flaws. If Squenix learns from its shortcomings and changes FFXIV accordingly, I have no doubt it will be a wonderful experience.

the console war is over guys just stop being poor and get all the systems. In the end its well worth the money. and unless your playing the games side by side so u can see what your missing you cant tell the difference. and until you play MSG4 and it blows your mind thats when you realize that PS3 is the superior machine when matched with a superior game.

Too, bad they really could have used this opportunity (14) to deliver a true Final Fantsy VII sequel.

oh so outdated... thats why most games on 360 looks better. PC's are like a 30 year old rash hardwares. Anyway who needs FFXIV anyway, FFXI was crap, one of the lowest selling FF in the series...

rann89~ Um... wow... I can't believe I just read that. You do realize that the 360 has a more powerful GPU than the PS3 and for games GPU matters more than CPU hence all the dual platform games looking better on 360. This is just stating facts. Plus MMOs aren't that graphically intense because they wanna minimize slowdown and lag when there's like 100 people on the screen. As for your discs comment um... MMOs are installed to the harddrive and always run from the harddrive so what you said is kinda irrelevant.
