Activision Dancing with the Stars on Wii, PS2

Publisher turning rumba-infused reality show into rhythm game, due on Nintendo's console October 30 and Sony's device November 13.

Activision today announced that it has partnered with ABC Entertainment and BBC Worldwide America to make a Dancing With the Stars game for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2. Though just announced, it won't be long until the Dancing game comes home. The title will be available on the Wii on October 30 and on the PS2 on November 13.

The Wii version, which will cost $49.99, will take advantage of the unit's unique motion-sensitive controller, allowing gamers to mimic dance moves by physically prancing about. The PS2 version will use the PlayStation 2 Dance Pad, and cost $39.99 for just the game or $49.99 bundled with a limited edition, Dancing With the Stars-branded version of said pad.

Details on gameplay have not yet been divulged, but Activision stated that former Dancing With the Stars participants Emmitt Smith and Stacy Keibler will be included in the game. Dancing With the Stars is currently in its fifth season. Among the celebrity competitors featured in this round are Wayne Newton, Jane Seymour, Spice Girl Melanie Brown, and former 90210 star Jennie Garth.

Sorry this TV show is bad enough without it being pushed onto the gaming market, what do you do, pushing the 'X" then 'O" to heckle the judges?

The trouble is - the ps2 and the wii are cheap. So that attracts a heck of alot of non-gamers. Gamers who can't tell the difference between an eagerly awaited game by a good developer, and one with just a pretty box and concept.

The bad thing about this is that because of those lazy developers using liscences over gameplay - they can sell a load of titles, offering very little budget on the actual game itself, but more to the liscencing.

This then gives those lazy developers more money than they should deserve, and you will notice alot of the crap (but with attractive box-art) games hitting the shelves. Its not because the wii or the ps2 is crap, its because developers are taking advantage of the non-gamers lack of ability to know what a good game is.

If you have been gaming for years on end, then basically you should be able to tell what is a good game or not by either looking at the box, reading about it, or see who the developers are or even the publishers.

Non gamers don't have that knowledge, its the same as if a gamer who doesn't read books just picks up a novel with a pretty cover and just reads it.
Alot of readers know not to go for the attractive front covers, and go by the writer themselves. Never does a synopsis do the book any justice, same as if you look at the synopsis of a game at the back.

I mean, look at the back of red steel for the wii - the game is pretty bad, but the box and the synopsis make it seem good.

Alot of non gamers get fooled by this, because these new games coming out have a big liscence, they would expect these games to be good, like the TV show they like to watch.

They, then, will buy the game in the masses. The developers will reap the rewards - and then feel compelled to release more junk. Or copy the success of nintendo's mini games idea. How many times have you seen those around since launch...

Exactly the same happened to the ps2 - how many games did you play with pointless stealth bits thrown in AFTER mgs and mgs2 came out? LOADS of them.

It will take a developer with some guts to prove to the non-gamers exactly what makes a good game. This will prevent them just buying anything and everything off the shelf.

Thats the problem with the ps2 and the wii right now. Well, the ps2 is too far gone for it to change much, but the wii at the moment is living off lazy developers.

Once the good games come out, good developers will want to challenge those concepts and thus starts the good selection of games.

But if this game sells well - other developers will use the same ideas, get lazy, sell it to a naive audience.
So even though the wii seems to be getting all the slop, its because of the non-gamers buying the stuff. If nobody bought them, no developer would make them.

So its up to the unique and good games to set an example for them to copy and change around. How many console fps games (which are good) have you seen since goldeneye? ALOT.
How many survival horror games have you seen since resident evil? ALOT.
How many great racing games have you seen since GT?

I hope you know what I mean, its not the wii thats crap - its the developers (at the moment).

.....you can't be serious. Did you not learn anything from the American idol games? If I was a developer, I would not waste my resources on something that has already been done. There are many dance games out there, so I'll be surprised if this one gets a lot of attention. We need some more original stuff, it seems like hollywood is doing the same thing almost. Just recycling.

You guys should lay of with the "OMGZ! THIS GAME WILL SUCK LYK NOOBZ." comments. This could actually be a lot of fun, like Boogie is.
Although, coming from Activision, who are known in the gaming industry to make rely mostly on poor and lazy move tie-ins for their dough, this could well be another addition to the long list of flops.

But on the other hand, Activision are also well known for top quality games, so its hard to tell whether this game will be a hit, or a miss.
What I do know is that the Wii version will obviously be the better version(due to innovative controls) and the PS2 version will be a much more boring game.
These type of games happen all the time. But could this be a good one?
