E3 '07: Two new DDRs coming

Konami announces another two titles in the ever-expanding library of its famous rhythm game franchise.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Two more Dance Dance Revolution games are in the works for one of the most prolific game series ever.

The first, Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2, will be for the Xbox 360. It will introduce owners of the console to the Freestyle mode, where they can make whatever moves they like without having to follow the arrows. The new title will also have an enhanced Quest mode, where gamers create their own character and advance through a story with a set of missions.

Konami reported that Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 would feature songs from the present day, the '70s, '80s, and '90s. The game will also use Xbox Live, so users can download songs, have dance-offs against other players, and access exclusive DDR items.

The second title will be Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA 2 for the PlayStation 2. This game will have a variety of new modes, including Hyper Master Mode, as well as modes from the original game like Tutorial, Battle, Nonstop, and Challenge.

According to Konami, the game's soundtrack will have an "awesome new song lineup, packed with superstar artists, familiar hits, and a laundry list of brand new musical content." Up to four people can play in the online multiplayer mode, and the game will also make use of the Eye Toy camera.

The first Dance Dance Revolution game was released in 1998 and the title quickly became a success worldwide. Studies found that the energetic games helped fight obesity, and the game was also incorporated into exercise routines at schools.

No dates or prices have been announced for either of the two new games.

I really like this series and recently became addicted to Beatmania IIDX too, even though I play them using only Dual Shock at the moment; but I plan to buy their controllers. One of the best DDR I played is japanese DDR Extreme. It has a bunch of Paranoias, Speed Over Beethoven, Irresistiblement, Healing Vision, MAX 300 and many others I like. I'm feeling luck Supernova 2 is coming to PS2.

ITG is done by a different company.

ITG's licence and other stuff was bought out by Konami after Roxor was sued for messing around with DDR Machines and what not. They technically could release a game under the header of In The Groove
