    Background Information

Q1. I heard this game wasn't originally a Silent Hill game.
Yes, this is correct. Originally it was to be titled Room 302 and have nothing to do with Silent Hill, however in the later stages of the game in was turned into a Silent Hill game and released as Silent Hill 4: The Room.

Q2. Is this game in first person view?
Only a smal portion of it. First person view is only used whenever you're in your apartment room, which is a place you return to very frequently throughout the game. The rest is the usual third person view Silent Hill veterans are used to.

Q3. Is this game a sequel to Silent Hill 2?
Not at all. It does take place after SH2 and there are some minor references and connections, but the plots are not connected to each other. SH4 is a stand-alone game.

    Q4. Is this game scary?
It depends what you find scary. From my own personal experience it's not really scary, especially if you're familiar with the other games, although a few moments may startle you. However, if a game like Resident Evil genuinely scares you, then prepare to **** yourself here. In my opinion, SH4 is the least scary game in the entire Silent Hill series and it maintains a much brighter atmosphere. Personally, I love this atmosphere and it's a great new style, but this game simply isn't on the same level as the previous three.

Q5. Should I get this game?
Yes, you should. If you're asking that question it means your interested, and Silent Hill games don't disappoint anyway. Go for it.

Q6. Is there a flashlight and radio like in the previous games?
No, there's no portable radio and flashlight this time around. There is, however, a stereo in your apartment which is used as a radio just like the previous games, however only detecting hauntings in your apartment, and it can't be moved. As for a light source, most of the game takes place at day and most rooms are very bright, however for one stage you will get to use a torch to find certain items.

Q7. Do I have to play the other SH games first in order to understand the story?
No, not at all. Having played SH2 will make you more familiar with the main antagonist in the game, but the stories are completely unrelated.

Q8. Are there multiple endings in this game too?
    Yes, there are four endings.

Q9. Is there a UFO ending as well?
No, unfortunately that ending doesn't make a return in this game, and the same with any other joke endings.

Q10. How long is this game?
Anywhere from 6 to 12 hours your first time, I'd say. My first time through was 8 hours, however I am more of an explorer.

Q11. Is the soundtrack included in this game, like SH3?
No, at least not anymore. I believe it was included with a preorder in the game's release days, though.

Q12. I heard this game wasn't that great.
To be honest, it is a great game, but it really isn't up to par with the previous three games. Some people like it and others don't. It's not that the game is bad per se; it's just that the other Silent Hill games are better. At least that's the consensus.

    Game Basics

Q13. What's up with the health bar? No status screen?
Nope. Silent Hill 4 has no status screen and relies solely on the new health bar, which is obviously more accurate than a status screen anyway.

Q14. What are Saint Medallions, Holy Candles, and Swords of Obedience for?
They are anti-spirit items that repel ghosts and/or hauntings. Saint Medallions can be equipped to basically prevent Ghosts from attacking you. They can actually still attack you but they move incredibly slow with a Medallion equipped and they can no longer damage you just by being near you. Holy Candles can be placed on the ground to do the same thing, however its range is very limited and is therefore almost pointless for this. However, Holy Candles are great for clearing hauntings (see "How do I clear hauntings?" below). As for Swords of Obedience, once you knock a ghost down, if you stick a sword in it you will prevent the ghost from getting up, and if you leave it there it will never be able to follow you again throughout the rest of the game.

    Q15. What are these "hauntings"?
Around halfway through the game certain things will happen in your apartment that will affect you as you traverse through it. Whenever you go near a haunting, the screen will flash red and you will start to take damage. Whether or not you clear these hauntings (most of them at least) will affect the ending you'll receive at the end of the game.

Q16. How do I clear hauntings?
Place a Holy Candle near a haunting and watch it fade away, or use a Saint Medallion instead. I recommend Holy Candles though, since Saint Medallions can be used for better things.

Q17. What are all the hauntings and in which room are they located?
    Living Room
-The windows will start to rattle
-The single coach will become haunted (this one is invisible until you try to get rid of it)
    -The clock will go crazy
-The television will continuously emit static
-Cracks will form on the walls
-A Ghost will begin to make his way through the wall
-Blood will start pouring out of the front door's peephole
-Crying dolls will start to appear over the item chest (if the Shabby Doll is inside it)

    Kitchen
-A meowing dead cat will appear in the fridge
-The sink will pour out blood
-Your slippers will wander into the kitchen, leaving blood footprints

    Bedroom
-The telephone will start ringing and Walter will keep calling you
-The photo frame turns into a portrait of Walter
-A shadow of a small boy will appear in the closet
-Cracks will form on the walls
-A Ghost will begin to make his way through the wall

    Washroom
-A Ghost will begin to make his way through the wall

    Laundry Room
-A Ghost will begin to make his way through the wall

Q18. Is there any point in getting health items if my apartment recharges my health?
Yes, because later on in the game your apartment will no longer recharge your health, so you'll need to rely solely on health items.

Q19. Why did my weapon break?
Cause that's what happens when you use certain weapons in this game. Every golf club you get will break after using it for long enough. The Wine Bottle can also be broken, but it can still be used as a weapon once it's broken.

Q20. Where are all these notes coming from in my room?
You'll find out soon enough if you keep playing.

Q21. Is there a bullet adjust feature in this game?
No, there isn't. Unlike the previous three games, SH4 focuses more on melee weapons.

Q22. I heard the inventory is limited.
Yes, this is correct. A first in the Silent Hill series.

    Game Basics

Q23. How many items can I hold at once?
    10. This includes even very small items and each ammo box as well. Very unfortunate but you'll just have to deal with it.

Q24. How many items can the item chest hold?
    Unlimited items.

Q25. Is the item chest in SH4 like the item chest in Resident Evil?
No, not really. The item chest in Henry's apartment is the only one in the entire game. The concept is similar in that you can put items in the chest that you don't plan on using soon, but there is only one and you'll always have to come back to your apartment to put items in and take items out.

    Q26. Is ammo conservation important?
Honestly, not in the slightest. In the previous games it was very important, but there's barely any ammo in this game and the firearms aren't great anyway. Melee weapons are much more effective.

Q27. How do charge-up attacks work?
For the weapons that have them, you'll see a little circular icon at the top of the screen beside the health bar, and this will fill up with a yellow meter when you hold X. Once the meter fills up and starts flashing, once you release X, the charge-up attack will be performed.

Q28. What is the best weapon in the game?
I'd say without a doubt, the Rusty Axe. It's very versatile, moderately powerful, has a very powerful charge up attack with the longest range. The Spade is another great weapon as well with some similarities, however it is a bit slower than the Axe. And the Pickaxe of Despair may be more powerful and with a deadly charge-up attack, but it's much slower. Still all great weapons, though.

Q29. How many damn golf clubs are there?
There are 12 different ones throughout the game. They're powerful melee weapons but they break very easily. There's no point in saving them so you might as well put them to good use if you're going to bother picking them up. Once they break, dump them in your item chest.

Q30. Is 3D control in this game?
No, unfortunately it isn't. This is the first Silent Hill game where your only choice is 2D control

Q31. What's the best way to dodge the Sniffer Dogs?
Run in a very wavy line, back and forth. And by that I mean really alternating your walking path a lot, not just turning left and right. Make major left and right turns to avoid them.

Q32. What are these floating people enemies?
Those are Ghost Victims, and you'll be seeing a lot of them throughout the game. They are the victims of "The Man In The Coat."

    Q33. Can you kill Ghosts?
No, you can't. The best you can do is use a Sword of Obedience to pin one down. Saint Medallions work great to repel them and their effects. There are also two Silver Bullets in the game that you can use to temporarily "kill" ghosts -- this allows you to easily stab a sword into them.

    Q34. What about Wheel Chairs?
No, you can't kill them either. They work exactly like ghosts do in that you can never kill them but you can put them "offline," in some sense, for a temporary period of time.

Q35. How do you equip Eileen-only weapons?
First of all, Eileen has to be near you. Then, just equip her weapons as you would one of your weapons. You can never equip Eileen weapons when she's not with you though, so remember this when you want to ditch one of her weapons in the item chest.

    Characters and Plot

Q36. So who is this Henry guy and what's his story?
A brand new character to the series. He's been locked in his apartment for the past four days and continues to have recurring nightmares. That's where you come in, to save the day.

Q37. Why is Henry so damn quiet?
I know...What...the...hell...eh? He just seems like he was always a quiet individual.

Q38. So does Henry have any history with Silent Hill?
Yes, he used to go there when he was younger and take pictures of the town. You can see some of these pictures in his bedroom.

Q39. Is Frank Sunderland related to James from Silent Hill 2?
Actually, yes he is. Frank is James' father.

Q40. Does Frank mention anything about James?
No, he doesn't, however if you examine a certain picture in your apartment at a certain time Henry says that Frank mentioned his son and daughter-in-law disappeared in Silent Hill several years ago. So that's all we know about Jimmy-boy.

Q41. Is Jasper Gein related to Eric from the Trick or Treat puzzle in Silent Hill 2?
There's nothing that says he is. Who knows if Eric Gein was supposed to be a real person instead of a made up name for that SH2 puzzle anyway. This just seems to be a case of name recycling, just like Steve Garland (Lisa Garland), the pet shop owner.

    Q42. Is Cynthia a prostitute?
She looks and acts like she could be, but I doubt it. Her extra costume really makes her look like one, though. She just seems to be a flirt, however. And she does seem pretty dirty, but hell, I'd still hit it.

    Q43. Who is Joseph Schreiber?
He was the previous occuppant of Room 302 and also a writer/journalist -- he wrote an article about Hope/Wish House that can be found in both SH3 and SH4. Apparently Joseph's apartment became possessed just like it did for Henry and he went missing. Throughout the game you'll receive several of Joseph's diaries from his last days in Room 302.

    Q44. Walter... Sullivan? No way!
Yes way! Yes, this is the character you read about in the newspaper at the bottom of the garbage shoot in Silent Hill 2.

    Q45. Isn't Walter dead?
He killed himself, yes, but this Walter here isn't exactly a normal "human."

Q46. What the hell is the Twin Victim (Victim 07 + 0?
Freaky thing, isn't it? Well, victims 7 and 8 of Walter's ritual were killed at the same time and were brother and sister, so instead of taking the form of two individual ghosts, they form something of a hybrid monster. One of the more unique creature designs in the game and the entire series.

Q47. Are the holes in this game like the one mentioned in Silent Hill 2, inside Neely's Bar?
    No, they are unrelated.

    The Game

Q48. Is there any way I can escape my apartment?
No, unfortunately some wiseguy thought it was funny to lock your door with heavy duty chains, and there's no other way out. The walls can't be broken through and the windows can't be broken. The only "escape" is through the hole in your washroom (and your laundry room when that hole appears), until near the very end of the game.

Q49. Is there any way I can get a better view of those babies? And I'm talking about Cynthia, by the way.
Oh, there certainly is! When you're going through the subway car maze, when you enter the middle car on the east side from the north, don't move and just take a look from above. Oh yeah, baby! For an even better view, feel free to push her back a little by walking into her.

Q50. Why the hell do I keep hearing the sound of a wooden object falling in the subway washrooms?
Good question, and I've always wondered this myself. There seems to be no answer to this.

Q51. What do I do after Cynthia gets sick?
Enter the ladies' room and enter the hole in the wall to return to your apartment. Find the moved piece of furniture by the wall near the kitchen, move it and get the Pistol and check the wall there to look into Eileen's room. Then get the phone that's ringing in Henry's bedroom. Now it's time to return to the subway.

Q52. Why is there a massive snake-like thing in the Subway World?
It doesn't concern you so don't worry about it. It may be odd but it won't hurt you, I promise.

Q53. How do I open the toy box in the Subway World?
You can't open it your first time in the subway, so don't worry about it. When you return, you'll need to use the Toy Key you acquired in you apartment, midway through the Subway the 2nd time.

Q54. Am I going to get my "special favour" or what?
Well, it doesn't look like it after you see what happens to Cynthia, and the game won't let you get your special favour yourself, if you know what I mean. It's a damn shame but there's nothing you can do about it. Truly sad...

Q55. Is Henry an idiot? "Are you okay?"
Of course she's okay. She's only lying still on the floor with a gallon of blood smeared all over the room.

Q56. Is the lake in the Forest World really Toluca Lake?
Why, yes it is. The one and only. So that means that you're actually in Silent Hill in the forest stage.

Q57. Jasper is telling me, "oh, chocolate." What does that mean?
It means he wants to trade you his shovel for something chocolate. Give him the Chocolate Milk you got from your fridge in your apartment (it's still there if you didn't get it yet).

Q58. "Opposite where the lake and house meet, inside the hand holding onto the ground."
The lake and the house meet in the northwest, so the opposite of that is the southeast. Go to the southeast and you'll find a strange-looking root by some trees. This is where you need to dig with the spade you got from Jasper.

Q59. "The holder of this key will wander for eternity."
This means that if you have this key on you, you will never escape the southeast section of the Forest World. When you try to leave through the gate, you'll just be transported back to the other entrance. To solve this, enter the hole at the southeast end, put the key in your item chest, return to the Wish House compound and use the hole there to get your key back and use it.

Q60. How do I unlock the crazy man shouting from his cell in the Water Prison World?
You'll need to get to the inner core of the prison and rotate the cells a certain way to let him out. Refer to the question below.

Q61. How do I solve the surveillance room puzzle in the Water Prison?
You need to line up all the rooms with bloody beds in them (look through the peepholes in the rooms to find the bloody bed rooms) -- all these rooms have holes in them so you can jump all the way down to the kitchen in the basement (however, only the bloody bed cells will work). on 2F, find the handle and turn the cells left or right four times (either left four times or right four times; it doesn't matter, just as long as you're consistent with your choice), and on 3F, turn the handle twice to the right. After turning the 3F handle once, a cutscene will show the man being unlocked from his cell, but you're not finished. Make sure you turn the handle a total of two times to the right. Now head up to 3F and jump down all the holes starting from the cell in the northeast.

Q62. What is the code to the keypad in the kitchen in the Water Prison World?
The Secret Number Memo from 3F of the surveillance rooms tells you it's 0302.

Q63. I found a ghost with a Sword of Obedience stabbed into him. Should I take it or leave it?
It's your call. Since it's the first Sword of Obedience in the game, you may be tempted to take it, but that ghost will follow you throughout the game if you do. If you leave it, he'll never get the chance to follow you.

Q64. A Gum Head stole one of my weapons. What the hell!
Yeah, it sucks but you'll just have to deal with it. Beat one down and take his golf club for revenge.

Q65. What's the code to the keypad in Bar Southfield in the Building World?
The memo on the bar says the code is the last four digits of the phone number to the bar. If you look out the window in your apartment you can see a billboard for Bar Southfield and it says the phone number is 555-3750, so the code is 3750.

Q66. What is the purpose of the Shabby Doll from Walter in the Apartment World?
First of all, you don't ever need to take it and all it does is make you worse off. If you take the doll and dump it into your item chest, a new haunting will form right by your item chest and it will affect you every time you try to use it (and you can't take the doll out while the haunting is in progress, as it can't be found). If you keep the doll in your inventory, it just wastes a space, too.

Q67. All the apartment rooms are locked. Where are the keys?
You need to get the Apartment Keys from the superintendent's room, which is room 105. It contains the key for every apartment other than 303 and 302, Eileen and Henry's rooms.

Q68. I called a number and hear the phone ringing, but where is it coming from?
Room 202. It's annoying, isn't it? When you get to the other phone, examine it to pick it up.

Q69. What is the point of using the phone anyway?
It's just for plot background purposes. By finding the ringing phone in room 202, you learn that nurse Rachael's "lover" is the occupant of this room (as the number called in room 106, Rachael's room, was the number to "My lover", instead of Mike, the guy who's been stalking Rachael. This is confirmed by checking the portraits around the room and thus the love triangle is completed.

Q70. How do I listen to the "Skinned Mike" Cassette?
Put it in the stereo in your apartment living room. Interesting stuff.

Q71. Where is the other piece of the Torn Red Paper that says where Eileen's keys are?
Inside room 102, in the fridge.

Q72. How do I read the Red Papers found in the Apartment World?
Remember how red papers are always found under your front door in your apartment? Try that yourself, by going to room 302 and sliding the papers under the door. Then return to your apartment to read them.

Q73. Do I need to put all the Red Papers under my door?
No, you only really need just the one that tells you where the key is. You should put them all under your door the first time though, for plot purposes.

Q74. A memo said Eileen's room key is by my bed, but where exactly?
Look between the bed and the far wall by the windows. It's right there on the floor.

Q75. The hole in my washroom filled up. What now?
Time to create another one. Under your front door you'll find the Succubus Talisman which has a demon on it, and if you check your laundry room you'll find what looks like a demon face on the wall as well. Use the Succubus Talisman and four square depressions will appear. Time to use the four placards you got from the Subway, Forest, Water Prison, and Building World, respectively. Temptation goes on the left, Source on the right, Watchfulness at the top, and Chaos at the bottom. Now enter the newly-appearing hole.

Q76. What's up with the hospital room with the huge Eileen head?
Indeed. The room maintains a rather sexual atmosphere, especially with the sexual moaning of Eileen. Perhaps Henry will get to hear that moaning many more times in the future? Oh yeah!

Q77. Where is the key to the locked room in the long hallway in the Hospital World?
Keep checking the other rooms. The arrangement of the rooms is completely random each time, but what's in each room is the same each time. You'll find the key in the room with the snake statue. Once the cage falls after you get it, use the very same key to escape the cage.

    Q78. Can Eileen ever die?
Not while she's with you, no. The worst thing that will ever happen is she'll just kneel down and chill there for a while, no matter how much damage she takes. It's important to take care of her though if you want one of the better endings in the game.

Q79. Do I have to wait up for Eileen before I enter rooms?
Yes, or else she'll stay behind. You won't be able to move on to the next area without her, and she'll also take damage sometimes if you leave her alone, so try to keep her with you at all times.

Q80. Why is my apartment not recharging my health anymore?
Because your apartment is starting to become possessed now, and you won't be able to use your apartment for charging your health for the rest of the game. It's all health items from this point on.

Q81. Cynthia's ghost is really annoying me.
If she really is, then beat that ***** down and stick a Sword of Obedience in her. Either that or just stay the hell away from her. Unless you're trying to pin her down, don't bother fighting her or any other ghosts.

Q82. What do I do with the Filthy Coin?
You need to wash it before you can use it in the vending machine. Return to your apartment and wash it in your kitchen sink to get the 1$ Coin. Then return to the subway and use it on the vending machine on the east Lynch Street Line platform.

Q83. What do I do with the Train Handle?
Find the train on the King Street Line platform and use it at the front to move the train forward ahead. Then find the nearby open doors and go down the stairs to the next world.

Q84. How do I kill Walter after the subway?
First of all, you can't kill him, and second, you don't need to fight him there. Just find the other door and move on.

Q85. Can I kill Walter when he's following me?
No, you can't. You can beat him down and stop him for a short while, but he'll start following you again in other areas. Try to stay away from him and at the same time not get too far ahead of Eileen. Run in crazy wavy lines to dodge his bullets.

Q86. Where are all the doll parts in the Forest World 2nd Time?
Check all the wells you find. There are five wells and five doll parts -- one in each well. There's one in the middle southwest path, one in the first northwest path, one at the end of the southeast path, one in the second northeast path and the final one at the end of the northeast path.

Q87. What do I do after I get the Prisoner's Shirt?
Henry mentions he should dip it in some coloured liquid, and if you check the bathtub in your apartment washroom it's full with blood. Dip the shirt in and read the note.

Q88. How am I supposed to get the key from Victim 18 in the Water Prison?
You'll need to take him down and stab him with a Sword of Obedience. If you have any Silver Bullets, that would be the best method. Wait for a well-placed shot and then stick a sword in him to get the key. As an alternative, use other weapons like Richard's Revolver and the Rusty Axe's charge-up attack to knock him down, then quickly use the sword.

Q89. What are the four Reminisces in the Building World?
Put the Billiard Ball on the pool table in Bar Southfield, the Volleyball in the volleyball basket in Albert's Sports Store, the Cake Candles in the cake in the birthday room on B3, and the Stuffed Cat in the cage in the pet shop.

Q90. What do I do after completing the four Reminisces?
Head to the room where the clock sounds are coming from, under the pet shop. Now you can use this door to bring Eileen to Bar Southfield where you can leave the area finally.

Q91. What is the new phone number to Bar Southfield and what is the keypad combo?
If you call the old number on the phone in your apartment, you'll get a message saying the phone number has been changed to 555-4890, so the code is 4890.

Q92. How do I beat the Wall Men boss fight?
You need to find the "One Truth," that is the one Wall Man that causes every Wall Man to flinch when you hit it. Once you find that one, continue to damage it until it and therefore all the others are dead. Then the door will unlock.

Q93. Why the hell is there a big black man hanging from the ceiling in Room 302 of the Past?
Good question. But anyway, that's Joseph Schreiber. He's not supposed to be a black figure hanging from the roof but that's what you get to see of him anyway. He's the guy who wrote all the Red Diaries and he is the one who occupied Room 302 before Henry. Then he went missing. He tells you what you must do. Kill... Kill... Kill... Kill...

Q94. What am I supposed to do in Room 302 of the Past?
After you get the memos in the bedroom, return to the living room for a cutscene. Afterwards, the Pickaxe of Hope appears on the wall at the end of the hallway, hinting that you need to break the wall. This can't be done here, so go back to your own apartment and break the wall by using the Pickaxe from there.

Q95. What are the Keys of Liberation for?
    Take one big wild guess.

Q96. How do I remove the chains from the super's door Outside Room 302?
Head over to the east side of the first floor and search the hallway and the apartment rooms for hanging statues of Walter. Once you find each one, it will disappear and so will one of the chains on the super's door. Two of the statues are in the east corridor and the four others are in the apartment rooms in the same corridor.

Q97. Why won't Eileen follow me anymore?
She seems to be attached to the picture on the ground. Anyway, don't worry about it and move on.

Q98. What do I do after getting the Umbilical Cord?
Head back to your apartment room. If you check on Walter's body in the secret room in your apartment, he's gone and there's a hole underneath where he was. Jumping down the hole leads to the final boss fight. Stock up on weapons and health.

Q99. What do you recommend for the final boss fight?
You'll need the Umbilical Cord, and as for a weapon I recommend the Rusty Axe. Another solid choice, if you know how to use it, would be the Pickaxe of Despair. Richard's Revolver isn't that great, but you can try it if you want. Only take the weapons you'll need though (if you know you're probably going to use only one weapon, just take that weapon), then fill up on health. Try to leave three inventory spots open, though. After you use the Umbilical Cord, you're left with four inventory spots to get all the spears from one side of the battle room. Get them and stab them into the huge creature in the room and then get the other four, doing the same thing.

Q100. How do I defeat Walter in the final boss fight?
Walter is invincible until you do a few certain things. First, use the Umbilical Cord on the huge creature in the room. Eight spears will appear around the room. Obtain them all (preferably four at a time, if you have the recommended inventory space available) and stab them into the creature as well. Now Walter is vulnerable to your attacks, so start attacking him now.

Q101. How do I stop Eileen from dying in the final boss fight?
Beat Walter as quickly as you can so he's dead before Eileen walks into the pool of blood. Eileen's speed depends on how much damage she took in the game, so she'll walk really fast if she took a lot of damage, therefore making it impossible to win with her alive sometimes. There's no way to stop her yourself and her survival depends on you defeating Walter before she effectively kills herself while she's possessed.

Q102. Is there a way to heal Eileen before the final boss fight?
Well, there is the Holy Candle Trick. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can heal Eileen at any time by placing a Holy Candle at her feet, but the effect is temporary. So you can do this in room 105 before you get the Umbilical Cord, and then quickly rush to the final boss and defeat Walter. This may not always work though, so don't count on it. Try the better method of not allowing too much damage to Eileen in the first place.

Q107. What is the Eileen Glitch?
    From my FAQ:

It can be a real hassle to drag Eileen along with you during the latter
half of the game, and for one section of the game there is a glitch that
can make things a little easier. During the Building World 2nd time,
Eileen can't use ladders and won't be able to follow you everywhere. You
must find and perform the four reminisces described in the Reminisces memo
in order to unlock the clock door near the pet shop for an alternate
route, allowing you to continue on with Eileen and complete the area.
Without completing this mini-puzzle, there is no other way to complete
this section of the game, with the exception of this glitch.

After entering the elevator on B10 at the beginning of the world and
arriving at B12, there is a small area through the south elevator doors.
Exit through the south doors to this small lot to set up the glitch. The
idea is to keep Eileen at the farthest away point from the elevator (west
elevator), and then quickly run for the elevator without her following
you, and enter it. To do this, bring Eileen to the southeast corner of the
lot. Make her face you and bump into her, briefly stunning her and
preventing her from moving for a second, and then sprint for the elevator
and enter it. This should be very easy to do.

From here, everything is all good. Back in the elevator alone, head down
the ladder on the northside and use the shower room to access the west
pathway up the far ladder in the hallway. Once you reach the fence, you'll
see Eileen on the other side, but she can't accompany you just yet.
Continue to the south area on B12, and stand still after entering the
area. You should hear some footsteps and Eileen will walk up to you. Since
you're not in the previous pathway, the game does not detect the fence in
front of Eileen, and so she just walks right through it and meets up with
    you again. Mission Accomplished.

By doing this glitch, you don't have to do the reminisces mini-puzzle, and
therefore you don't need to pick up any of those four items. Just continue
on to the Wheel Chair room down to Bar Southfield and move on.

Q108. What are the requirements for a 10 star ranking?
    Difficulty: Hard
    Play Time: Under 2 hours
    Saves: 0
    Continues: 0
    Enemies defeated: 120
    Memo Items Found: 52/52
    Ending: Doesn't matter
    Rank: TEN BIG GOLD STARS

You're given two freebies here, in terms of your ranking out of 100. So for example you can miss one memo and have one save and still get a 10 star ranking.

    Q109. What is A Brand-new Fear?
It's a special mode you unlock after completing the game. By playing A Brand-new Fear, you can use any weapons or items you've unlocked, instead of starting a new game.

Q110. How do I unlock One Weapon Mode?
Obtain a perfect 10 star ranking.

Q111. How do I unlock All Weapons Mode?
Beat One Weapon Mode with a 10 star ranking.

Q112. What weapon do you recommend for One Weapon Mode?
    Rusty Axe. No question.

Q113. How do I unlock Eileen's nurse costume?
First you need to complete the game with one of the two endings in which Eileen lives (Escape, Mother). Then in A Brand-new Fear you'll be able to find the "Nurse Uniform" item in Eileen's apartment room, room 303, Outside Room 302. When you get the item, you must obtain another ending in which Eileen lives, and finally the next time you start A Brand-new Fear, you'll be asked which Eileen costume you want to be used, Normal or Nurse. Choose Nurse.

Q114. How do I unlock Cynthia's extra costume?
You must have completed the game with all four different endings and have Eileen's Nurse uniform unlocked. Then in A Brand-new Fear, choose Eileen's Nurse costume, and now both Eileen and Cynthia will be wearing their extra costumes. This is the only way it works and you can only get Cynthia to wear her costume if Eileen is wearing hers too.

Q115. I heard there is "jiggle" with Eileen and Cynthia's extra costumes.
Damn right. Great motion as well. Feel free make Eileen run just for the hell of seeing those babies bounce, and don't forget to bump into her a few times as well. Cynthia is harder, but with the way she walks it still happens. Go ahead and push her backwards as well.

Q116. How do I unlock the Chainsaw?
Beat the game once and play A Brand-new Fear.

Q117. How do I unlock to Submachine Gun for Eileen?
Beat the game with a ranking of 90/100, or 9 out of 10 stars.

Q118. Does the Submachine Gun really hurt Eileen?
Yes, it does. If she continues to use it she'll take damage, so if you want her to live in the end you shouldn't use it.

Q119. I heard there was a Silent Hill 2 reference in this game.
Yes, there is. After the Building World, check the toilet in your apartment washroom to see it yourself. All that happens is Henry refuses to put his hand into the toilet, unlike James in SH2. Nothing big, but still interesting.

Q120. Where is the Stun Gun?
It is in the initial lower east cell (4 o'clock cell) in the Water Prison World. Arrange the cells in the surveillance room so you can jump down and get it.

Q121. What are the Victim Files and where can I see them?
They are files on all the ghost victims in Walter's ritual and they were originally found on Konami's site for SH4. They can be found here:
    http://www.translatedmemories.com/victimfiles.html

    Soundtrack
Q122. What is the name of the song that plays in the opening movie?
It is called "Room of Angel."

Q123. Who are the people on the vocals in the game's soundtrack?
The female voice is Mary Elizabeth-McGlynn and the male voice is Joe Romersa.
They are both returning from Silent Hill 3, however Mary went by the name of
Melissa Williamson in Silent Hill 3's soundtrack.

Q124. Who is responsible for the music in Silent Hill 4?
That would be Akira Yamaoka, the best music composer in the videogame industry in my opinion. He's responsible for all the music and sounds in the Silent Hill series.

Q125. Where can I find the Tender Sugar music video?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nztn1y7ek4k

Q126. Where can I find lyrics for the songs with vocals?
Check my FAQ/Walkthrough and go to the Song Lyrics section towards the end.

Q127. Where can I find guitar tabs for the songs on the soundtrack?
