SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom Hands-On Impressions - E3 2004
We get our hands dirty with the upcoming Xbox version of SNK's soon-to-be-ported crossover fighting game at E3 2004.
We were able to jump in for a few rounds of SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom on the Xbox at SNK's E3 booth. The game originally appeared in arcades on SNK's soon-to-be-retired NeoGeo arcade hardware and subsequently appeared in NeoGeo home cartridge format. Like the original game, the Xbox version reuses character sprites from the King of Fighters series and also features lean, King of Fighters-style versions of popular (and not-so-popular) characters from Capcom's previous fighting games, like Chun-Li, Hugo, and Tabitha (also known as Tessa in Japan) from the obscure Capcom arcade fighting game Warzard (also known as Red Earth in Japan).
The game's control scheme and pacing seem to have been preserved perfectly in the Xbox version. The original SVC Chaos adopted the slightly faster, jumpier pace of the later games in the King of Fighters series, and this was reflected in the Xbox game. Unfortunately, some expert arcade players took issue with the horribly overpowered hidden characters in the original game, like Zero (from Capcom's Mega Man/Rockman series) and Mars People (the many-tentacled alien from SNK's Metal Slug series). However, now that SVC Chaos is coming to home systems, these overpowered characters will likely become nothing more than the novelty they were intended to be for most players (rather than being game-breakers, as some disgruntled arcade players might argue). Otherwise, every background stage and every frame of animation remained completely intact in the Xbox version of the game, so fans of the original arcade game should hopefully not be disappointed.
SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom is scheduled for release later this year.

Capcom Fighting Evolution Review

It's clearly best suited for hardcore fans of Capcom's fighting games, who might enjoy exploring some of the nuances here, but probably won't find much reason to keep coming back.
