Zero Tolerance overtaken by Urban Chaos

Third title for Eidos' riot-ridden game revealed; American release date set for spring on PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC.

First there was Roll Call, a gritty first-person shooter set in a run-down city in the near future. Then came Zero Tolerance, a gritty first-person shooter following a member of an elite anti-gang unit who must defend a city under siege. Today, Eidos announced Urban Chaos: Riot Response, a gritty first-person shooter starring a heroic law enforcement officer who must fend off terrorists.

If the three games sound hard to tell apart, it's because they're the same game. Urban Chaos: Riot Response is the third name for Rocksteady's shooter, the latest change resulting from various trademark issues. Though no specific properties were mentioned, Zero Tolerance was the name of a 1994 Sega Genesis game. Urban Chaos not only has a new name, it has a new North American release date. The game will ship for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC this spring.

Not much appears to have changed within the game, however, as today's announcement from Eidos reiterates that gamers will play as Nick Mason, a member of the T-Zero counter-gang unit. Mason will fight alongside firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency teams and will use high-tech weaponry and defensive items such as riot shields.

Back in 1999, Eidos released Urban Chaos for the PC, a third-person shooter that was received positively by critics. The game was later ported to the Dreamcast and PlayStation, where it received abysmal reviews. Though there are slight similarities, Riot Response does not appear to have anything to do with the original.

No relation to the Genesis game. I've been tracking this game for ages...I like the concept and the Havok physics. This is actually a gameplay scenario that I haven't seen too many times before. I liked the old name better, but oh well.

Nobody seems to care at all about this game anyway...

More rioting? Anarchy seems to be a popular setting nowadays. . . or end result of activities.
