At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom is showing off a playable version of Monster Hunter, the upcoming online action game for the PlayStation 2. The game will put you in the role of a monster hunter and charge you with taking down an intimidating assortment of beasts. The game will offer single player and online multiplayer modes that will offer plenty of options when taking out the various creatures.

Capcom has put together a lengthy trailer for the game that shows off some intriguing gameplay elements that look very promising. The online multiplayer mode will support up to four players, allowing you to team up with others to take down some impressively massive creatures. One of the cool touches we saw in the trailer was the coordination that's going to be possible when playing with a group. We saw one character lay down a booby trap while one of his teammates led a creature straight to it, allowing the team to gang up on the monster once it was snared in the trap. The perk to wiping out the aforementioned critters is for the skins, which you can use to get more powerful equipment. The game will also support your more mellow hunting endeavors by offering a decidedly less stressful fishing game in it as well. Monster Hunter is slated to be released in Japan in 2004. We'll have more on the game soon.
