extra territory glitch: how to get those ...

ok, we all know about the extra territory glitch and how to do it. we've done it, and now we have all these crazy new territories ready for us to take over

unfortunately (or not? , they aren't going to make it easy on us. some of those territories are out in the middle of nowhere, after all

but we still want to take them over, right? so let's talk about it, lend each other a hand

i'll start with an overall good strategy for taking over hard-to-get territories: lose gang wars in the easier-to-get territories. it's possible to lure gang members from one area to another and start a gang war, but it's easier if an entire area will yeild gangs. this is how i took the south end of san fierro, by starting a war in the airport area (where groups of ballas or vagos will spawn regularly), and leading an attack wave out of the territory where i started the war, into the next territory (stadium), repeating, until i had a gang war going on all the way down by my cliff-side farm

another version of this strategy uses the tractor (or towtruck). find a car-load of ballas or vagos in an 'easy' territory, latch it up, and take it somewhere 'harder'. then, murder the car-load

also, some territories that seem hard aren't really that tough. for example, i was frustrated with my continually thwarted attempts to take 'little mexico' (anyone have any helpful hints? i'm still frustrated , in a pique of absurdity, i took off to the 'in the middle of nowhere' territory 'fallen tree'. when i got there, first thing i saw, as soon as i pulled in, was 4 ballas, just standing there waiting for me to murder them (i only wish i had lead them elsewhere, now). and las venturas is all one territory, but you'll only find ballas in one (maybe two) place(s): on the golf course (and possibly on campus - i've seen gsf hanging out there after taking the territory)

    hand off!

i definitely recommend glitching, since it doesn't give any detrimental effects (like with cheats), and you can extend your play considerably

ok, a few more small tips, here (i'd really apreciate others lending their help here, too :

the names of territories: when you enter a territory, it's name gets displayed on the bottom right hand of the screen. it's said that, those territories you can take over, their names will show up in another colour (like purple, gold, or red). this might not be the case with the glitch territories, since i've taken territories with white names. gsf territory names always show up in green

when you are about to meet thugs, or are at least in a territory that can be taken over, i've always noticed that the framerate will decrease, motion becomes 'choppy', and the game takes on an almost dream-like quality. of course, when this happens, i don't always meet thugs (like, for example, in arco del oeste), but i at least know i'm on the right track when it happens

don't take your hommies with you to scare up thugs to murder. they reduce and confuse ped spawns

wandering around within a territory seems to do less good than leaving it totaly and re-entering

(there could very well be a secret to getting certain things to spawn)

walk, don't ride (running seems to be detrimental, too)

    Err...
To get them put in the code for replace peds with gangs, then keep killing gangs in that territory until it activates.

by the way, it's totaly possible to do this glitch without using cheats at all, too. you just gotta do it like 6 or 7 times

get yer muscle and fat maxed out, plus full health, steal a shamal in las venturas ('cause there's no rainstorms in the desert!!!), fly due north at top speed until you die (takes about 3.5 hours each time)

when you see a total of 178 territories, you don't have to do the glitch anymore

    ok, some more things:

    - vagos and ballas might sometimes spawn in your own territories (last night, i capped a crack dealer about two blocks away from the johnson house, then found mydself under attack from three ballas. i dealt with them, took a few steps, and ran smack into four more - this right within the darkest green section of los santos)

    - glitch/extra territories under your control - you can start gang wars there, too, if you find vagos/ballas there (or lure them there) - useful if you'd like to lose a territory or two

    - your take from the johnson house will decrease after initiating the glitch (it's based on percentage of territory held)

    - you cannot start a gang war with mafia, yakuza, or aztecas. only ballas and vagos

    - i still haven't been able to take over azteca territory (even though it's coloured) - can anybody confirm whether they're takable or not?

also, some glitch territories don't even show up on the map, but remain normal-coloured. just try luring thugs from a coloured area into an uncoloured area to check it out

    looking at individual territories...

gant bridge in san fierro is divided into two territories, one linked to battery point (easy to get: just mope arround in battery point until you see ballas or vagos, lure them under the bridge where the words 'gant bridge' appears, then murder. gangstas spawn on the bridge itself, but will die when they try to jump down(!) to get you), the other one is the rest of the bridge, ending at 'bayside' - this is a bit harder: get yer jetpack, and start a gang war in the easy section of gant bridge, as shown above. then, fly up to the bridge, before the gangstas jump off, and lure them over the other section of the bridge, until you lose your war. then murder the thugs, starting a new gang war in the target territory

san fierro, city hall: gangs tend not to appear here (unless you travel quickly from one gang area to this one, and stop immediately on entering - sometimes then you'll see gangs. this seems to be some sort of 'carry-over effect' with regards to spawning). all you need to do is lure thugs. i went north, into palisades, 'cause a group of ballas will spawn at about the foot of the first hill fairly regularly. but remember to lure these guys further south, so you can get the patch of beach to the west of avispa country club, and then also the patch to the west of city hall. ballas will appear all along palisades with good frequency

go to the yellow bell golf course. leave the las venturas from there (to the west), then re-enter. more often than not, you'll see a group of ballas hangin by the green, just waitin to get murdered. youmight also be able to find some on the campus, since i've seen some gsf spawn there after taking the territory (all of las vanturas is one territory - sweet!)

Shoot the Ballas. It usually doesn't matter if it's Ballas or Vagos, or even where they are standing. The critical factor is what's under CJ's feet. As long as it's an enemy controlled turf, and CJ shoots Ballas or Vagos, the gang war should start.

Or maybe I'm missing some details on the glitched turfs. The territory glitch barely works on PC, and I don't play on PS2 much anymore, so I've never had more than a handful of extra turfs to play with.

joeharamatheo, I just wanted to let you know that I'm a regular reader of this topic. I'm not currently engaged in glitching turfs, so I don't have much to add or questions to ask, but I appreciate the details and comments you offer and may use them in the future. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Well, I've cheated many times, and never had a corrupt file. I would use the gangs cheat (if I had done the glitch).

    los santos marina -south:

this one's just like city hall in san fierro - no one spawns here unless they 'carry-over' (or unless they're gsf - strange). your game might not show it, but all of the marina is takeable (mine only showed the southern portion for the longest time). the portion in the northeast (just above verona beach) is yer target here, that's where ballas will spawn, on the road that divides the two north marina territories. lure them where you need them to go (meaning especially the south end of the marina, where no rival gangs spawn)

in my game, it doesn't curently show the southern commerce or the convention centre territories (los santos, south of pershing square) in 'turf colours', but they are gang turf. i always seem to find vagos at the easternmost intersection of the eastern verdant bluffs teritory (just after the overpass with the street-sweeper parked), and they're usualy unarmed, and easy to lure anywhere you want them to go (i've yet to find gangstas in commerce-south OR the convention centre)
