If the previous Grand Theft Auto games were true masterpieces, San Andreas is a masterpiece as well and managed to innovate even more a genre that the Grand Theft Auto series created.
San Andreas is one of the biggest - if not the biggest - virtual space ever created for a videogame. San Andreas is a state with 3 main cities: Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas).
Each one of this cities has nearly the size of Vice City, linked by bridges and roads, with no loadings when entering a new city! Since there is a city like Las Vegas, there is a desert as well, and many rural villages.
The story starts when Carl Johnson - CJ - returns to Los Santos after 5 years in Liberty City, by finding out about the death of his mother. By returning, CJ decides to get away from all the violence and drugs that were taking over his life. When he arrives to his neighbourhood, the one that was once the most respected in Los Santos, he finds out that it is now a shadow of what it used to be, by being taken over by the rival gang.
With this situation, CJ re-enters the world he wanted to run away from.
The story is actually very good, with several twists and vendettas.
Just like in the previous games, we have total liberty to cause chaos on the city, by running over anyone who gets in our way, or shooting that dealer who just pissed us off. We can ride plains, botes, helicopters, cars, trucks, bikes, byclicles and all the means of transport you can imagine.
Usually there are several missions avaiable from different characters that can be done when we want to do them. Although some of the missions are close to the ones of the previous games, we have lots of original ones which show the great talent of the Rockstar creators to surprise all gamers and fulfil all tastes.
This game has some new improvements, like a soft touch of RPG. In San Andreas, we can get higher experience in each weapon, develop our stamina and health gauges, by exercising.
If we eat too much and don't make any exercise at all we will become fat, or become too thin if we don't eat. We can work out in the gym, swim in the sea (FINALLY WE DON'T DIE WHEN WE ENTER THE WATER!) to get muscles and become stronger (all of this activities will not only change the way we look as our overall strenght).
Now, we can even buy clothes and dress the way we want (of course, our style will influence the comments that people say on the streets when they see us).
Just like in the others, we can do taxi, ambulance, firefighter and police missions, but also pimp and burglar missions.
Have you ever wanted to have a girlfriend in a videogame? Look no further, in this one you can have more than one at the same time!
Since the main focus of the story is the conflict between rival gangs, in San Andreas we can acquire territories from rival gangs and for that, recruit some soldiers from our own gang (the number increases as our respect and reputation increase too) and kill the other gang's soldiers.
After such a long text, don't think that the improvements end here. There is much more new stuff in this incredible game, but you will have to play it yourself to find out. Play this game, weather you're a long time fan or a newcomer, you won't regret it!
