Fatal Fury compiled for PS2

SNK Playmore brings fighting franchise's earliest games to US with Battle Archives Volume 1.

The streets of South Town are ready to rumble once again, as SNK today said it will be revisiting one of its oldest fighting franchises. This summer, gamers will be able to reminisce about pummeling the colorful cast of the Fatal Fury series, as SNK has confirmed a US release for its PlayStation 2 compilation, Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1.

Set for release this summer, Battle Archives will collect the earliest installments of the NeoGeo arcade fighting franchise. In addition to Fatal Fury 1 to 3, the first Battle Archives volume includes Fatal Fury Special, a follow-up to Fatal Fury 2 that included a handful of extra characters and playable bosses.

As for why this is specified as "Volume 1" of the Fatal Fury Battle Archives, SNK Playmore has already released a second volume of the series in Japan that collects the Real Bout Fatal Fury games. As of press time, a representative of SNK Playmore had not responded to GameSpot's inquiry about a US release for that title.

The Fatal Fury series dates back to 1991, the same year Capcom released Street Fighter II. The game established SNK's foothold in the exploding fighting genre, and the publisher cemented its reputation as a 2D fighter factory with successive series like Art of Fighting, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, and The Last Blade.

@John_of_Fire: Name one company that still publishes Dreamcast games in the U.S. I still have and love my Dreamcast to death, but for us Americans, it's a dead system. It's all too bad we have to import anything for it. We only have the PS2 to rely on now.

Hopefully the PlayStation Network on PS3 will catch on in the future. It would be an amazing place to release these classic fighters. I still stand by the fact that Xbox 360's d-pad is crap for 2D fighters.

Actually, the first two Fatal Fury animes are only about an hour long each and as devilscry said they were mostly about the games story. The first one is ok (most of the fights end with one hit) but the second one was leaps and bounds beyond the first. Th fights are truly badass esp, when Terry sends Wolfgang Krauser slamming into the organ. Then as devilscry already mentioned they released Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, which has the best art and fights overall; a truly badass movie. P.S. yea playing as the character from The Motion Picture would have been awesome devilscry.

"sr-gogeta-goku was there a fatal fury anime"

Yes there was. Pretty decent too. The first two were sorta about the actual story of the game...but not really, they were more like " this is what happened in the game in movie form" I wouldn't really call them movies and i don't think they were spot on. But close enough. Mean while, The Movie they made later was Badass, though it had NOTHING to do with any of the games. which is sad, would have been nice to play as some of the evil characters from the movie.

Kinda cheap when you think about it, they know they could fit more games like those on a disc they only broke it up to make more money.

But hey, can someone wake me when they Make a Samurai Showdown and King of Fighters volume's 1. I'm down for those!

Sweet! Hopefully they give it a budget price. This has been one of my all time favorite fighting series. I always gone to the arcades to play these classics. I hope Vol. 2 gets released here.
It'll sure beat having to pay $200+ to play them on the Neo-Geo back in the day.

I heard someone say that it was good and the remake serves the graphics well, but there was a character missing for some reason.

This is definitely worth doing though and who can pass up an opportunity to use Guy or Hagar again?

Fatal Fury Special is being released for Xbox Live Arcade.

I hope the other Fatal Fury games on this disc will also be released for Xbox Live Arcade.

Seeing games like this recreated with 5.1 digital sound in high-definition graphics on the Xbox 360's Live Arcade is really cool.

All of my friends and I are hoping all of these games come to Xbox Live Arcade. Come on SNK, you can do it!

The Good: Fatal Fury Collection in the US, The Bad: it's not all of the games, The Ugly it is only on PS2. Maybe we can get one for Samurai Showdown including World Heroes with online play. Yeah I'm dreaming.

PS Cloud1349 Fighting fans have Dreamcasts rather than PS2s.

My Dreamcast is my haven for 2D fighting games. I love Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, but for some reason I haven't got tired of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Damn you'd think a move to make a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would've been obvious.
