Darkwatch: Curse of the West announced
Due in Q4 2004, Sammy Studios' supernatural shooter will bring horror action to the Old West.
Everyone played cowboys and Indians as a kid. But cowboys and vampires? Sammy Studios is betting that gamers will take to the unusual juxtaposition of Western and horror in its new game, the first-person shooter Darkwatch: Curse of the West. Sammy is both developing and publishing the title, which will be released for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in the fourth quarter of 2004.
Announced today, Darkwatch follows Jericho Cross, a Blade-like vampire-hunter that is partly undead himself. While traveling through a sprawling recreation of a newly spooky Old West, Cross will undertake a series of non-linear missions in addition to his overarching goal--to track down and destroy the vampire that bit him.
Darkwatch: Curse of the West will also differ from other frontier-set games in that it will include a variety of assault vehicles and souped-up versions of 19th-century weapons. GameSpot will have more details on Darkwatch as they become available.
