Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 Update

Capcom gives us an update on its next console compilation.

Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 is the upcoming compilation from Capcom that features another dose of retro titles from the veteran developer's storied back catalog. The game will feature 20 titles: 1941, Avengers, Black Tiger, Block Block, Captain Commando, Eco Fighters, Knights of the Round, King of Dragons, Last Duel, Mega Twins, Magic Sword, Quiz and Dragons, Side Arms, The Speed Rumbler, Street Fighter, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Strider, Three Wonders, Tiger Road, and Varth. If you're familiar with Capcom's PlayStation Portable incarnation of the compilation or last year's console game, this may all sound familiar; however, there've been some notable additions to the lineup, as well as some increased functionality, that helps give the game some appeal. We checked out a work-in-progress version of the PlayStation 2 game, which is looking pretty sharp.

Though we had a look at a sampling of the games in the collection, our primary focus was on a snazzy conversion of Super Street Fighter II Turbo, which ran like butter even in this early state. The arcade conversion is looking sharp and is as tough as we remember. Like all the games in the collection, SSFII Turbo will feature Xbox 360-style "achievements" that will open up bonus content--such as artwork, music, or tips--as you meet certain score or progression requirements. We also noted that Quiz and Dragons will include a new feature wherein you'll face off against familiar Capcom characters as bosses and receive special cheats when you defeat them. On the tech side of things, Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 will support progressive scan on both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. A new save feature will let you save at any time during a game and then resume from that point.

Based on what we've seen so far, Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 is looking like a worthy successor to last year's game. The roster of titles is an excellent mix of marquee games and lesser-known titles that have a strong appeal, regardless of their notoriety. If the game can maintain the level of quality in its presentation and conversion that the last compilation did, fans should be pleased. Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 is currently slated to ship this fall for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

Strider is the only game in this collection that does anything for me. That game was awesome.

It's a shame they won't be able to get any of their ultra-cool licensed game like, oh, say the D&D games, or Alien vs. Predator...some of the best games Capcom has EVER done...

Bummer. I wish they'd at least look into republish rights, or SOMETHING.

    What a waste.

Still, looks to be a good compilation. I can't wait to see what they do to bring Quiz & Dragons into the 2000s. That game was a little too pre1980 heavy for me to be able to play worth a damn.

Street Figher and Super Street Figher 2 Turbo are the only games that I would like to play since I have never played any of the others. I saw Capcom Classics Collection volume 1 was better since it had Ghouls and Ghost. I hope Capcom plans to release a third volume.

Finally I get the chance to finish a D&D game and to play the 1st Street Fighter game. Black Tiger and Captain Commando bring back memories of playing at the arcade. I can wait till it comes out. I just wish Konami made a classic collection of all Castlevania games.

All the games will be arcade versions. Besides, the NES version of Strider can already be seen on CC:Mini Mix for GBA. Second, they can't do games like Dungeons & Dragons, Alien Vs. Predator, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, U.N. Squadron, etc. because those games are licensed properties.

Anyhow, this is great news for us non PSP owners. I certainly can't wait to play such games like Strider, Captain Commando, Magic Sword, Tiger Road, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, & many other of these greats.

I remember only having played Black Tiger one time, and it was only at one bowling alley a long, long time ago. But I can't wait to play it again, and all of the other games too. Konami needs to make one with games like Rush N Attack, Contra, etc... Or, someone should come out with the original arcade version of Ninja Gaiden. Also there should be a Data East compilation with Bad Dudes, Heavy Barrel and Hippodrome (anyone remember that one?).

Also don't forget to add "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs". It is a great action adventure game.

Sweet jebus this is good. Unlockables for skills wweeeenesss all the way. License issues are probably to blame for D&D games being kept out, but would be nice if they had been listed or are hidden etc. now if they would only toss in some online....oh i better hush

I agree, definitely need to see the D&D games released though this collection is a good start and I wouldn't mind either way for Strider, whether arcade or old NES version.

Dont forget Armored Warriors, Cyberbots, and Aliens Vs. Predator rocks! I know there is a bunch of other games they are not putting out, but maybe they want to spread them into a possible Capcom Arcade Classics Vol. 3, vol. 4, etc.

I have Vol. 1. and, though there are a bunch of games I had never played before, the fact that it has Street Fighter II, Final Fight, and the Ghosts n' Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts games make it well worth every penny. I am soooo getting Vol. 2 as well.

Now, my question is, why in the world would the PSP be more expensive ($40+) than the $20 PS2 version?

The collection sounds very much like the one on PSP with a few different games like Knight of the Round. I have the regular one for Xbox and the PSP version. Strider is the arcade game, at least on the PSP. I agree with the other readers on Konami---they really need to publish a greatest hits package.
