Valkyrie Profile coming to PSP, PS2

Square Enix is porting an old RPG to Sony's portable and developing a new game for the current-gen console.

Square Enix announced today that it is porting its 1999 PlayStation role-playing game, Valkyrie Profile, to the PSP. The game will be renamed Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, and it is slated for release in Japan on March 2.

Square Enix is also developing a new Valkyrie Profile for release on the PlayStation 2 in 2006, titled Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. While information on the title is currently scarce, the latest issue of Shonen Jump reveals first details. The game will take place in the same world as the original Valkyrie Profile, albeit several hundred years earlier. The city of Dipan, which was a ruined realm in the original Valkyrie Profile, will be appearing as a prosperous kingdom. The magazine hints that Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria may reveal what led to the Dipan's downfall.

In Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, the player takes the role of two characters named Silmeria and Alisha, who coexist within the same body. Silmeria is a Valkyrie and the younger sister of Lenneth, the hero of the original Valkyrie Profile. Alisha is the kindhearted princess of Dipan. As punishment for angering the god Odin, he traps Silmeria's soul into the body of Alisha, and the game tells their story.

Square Enix will open a teaser site for the two Valkyrie Profile games on December 12 at the currently dead URL http://www.square-enix.co.jp/vp/. Additional details on the games will be provided via updates on the site.

    great RPG, very time consuming to especially get the perfect ending. also, the bonus dungeon where i had to personally slay the strongest boss around 11 times to get "angel slayer".it was fun!

    Play Time: 26:32:12++
    Lenneth's Level:93 didnt want to go 99.

    Oooh, I'm excited for the sequel. I played the original one and was crazy enough to buy a used one at the crazy collector's price of $70. The seller was even nice enough to leave the receipt in the manual. He picked it up for $20. Bet that was a nice profit...

    me parece garndioso , este era un gran rpg en PS1, asi que es una gran noticia , pero hubiera preferido una secuela del original en ves de una precuela, por que el juego original dejaba bastantes dudas en su final

    I played the original game although i never finished it. I'm looking forward to the latest version on PS2. While the remake on PSP, i don't really care, i don't like playing a remake except if it's FF VII.

    The original was fantastic. Originally, I got it on a whim shortly after it was released since it looked interesting. Honestly, I enjoyed it much more than many current generation RPGs. I'd say it's up there with other greats like Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantastic VI. Of course, it all depends on your own tastes. There aren't enough good RPG sequels these days...

    Wow, news about RPGs that are actually fun?

    I was under the impression that this month was all:

    Complain about SW:G and the NGE, because SOE ruined the game, just like EQ1.

    A VP sequel is excellent news. Here's to hoping they keep the same kick-ass battle system.

    Great news - I hope they will do more ports, with improved graphics and maybe some new areas. Most classic PSX RPGs cost a fortune to get hold of nowdays, and the PSP needs more RPGs - it's a win-win situation.
