E3 06: Ridge Racer PS1 on PSP Tech Demo Hands-On

Everything old is new again as Sony shows its first playable progress on getting PlayStation games running on the PSP.

As part of the PSP display in Sony's E3 booth, the company is showing off the first playable tech demo of a PlayStation game running on the PSP. Eventually, the company will offer PlayStation games for the PSP as paid downloads. For now, the company has the original Ridge Racer for the PS1 running on a PSP.

There's not much to tell, really, except that the PS1 version of Ridge Racer is already up and running quite well on the PSP. It has a few screen-stretching options, but for the most part, it appears to be a pretty accurate emulation of the original game.

There aren't many specific details when it comes to pricing and availability, but as a tech demo, it looked pretty good. But the question remains: How will we play PS1 games on the PSP when it's missing an analog stick and two shoulder buttons? We'll have to wait and see for the answer to that one.

Finally! I have been waiting for Sony to jump on the downloadable game bandwagon that Microsoft has been leading. More demos of unique games such as Loco Roco need to be released.
