Metal Gear Solid infiltrates PSN June 18

E3 2009: Konami and Kojima's original stealth actioner heads to Sony's online platform later this month for $10.

LOS ANGELES--Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII and EA's Medal of Honor aren't the only sought-after original PlayStation games to be announced for a rebirth on the PlayStation Network this week. Konami said today that it will be bringing Konami and Hideo Kojima's classic Metal Gear Solid to the PlayStation Network on June 18. The downloadable game will be available for $9.99.

Billed as "the originator of the stealth-action genre" by Konami, Metal Gear Solid drops players into the light-stepping shoes of Solid Snake. As detailed in GameSpot's review of the original Metal Gear Solid from 1998, the retired soldier known as Solid Snake is tasked with bringing down Fox Hound, a genetically enhanced unit of supersoldiers who have acquired a nuclear weapon.

I just found it! For anyone who can't (and is using the pc store), do this: in the store menu, click the "Downloads" button, sign in, and then click "Continue Shopping". You should now be able to find it!

Absolutely fantastic! This is the best game ever written. I hope the franchise never dies. Live on Hideo Kojima of Konami!

Is this the reason the old "Metal Gear Solid screens" keep popping up under In The Mix on the homepage? I saw that and I was like, umm, that's a little dated to be "in the mix".

I remember the first time I played and finished the game in Japanese, I killed psycho mantis without changing controler, it was very hard but I found a pattern to do it avoid all the stuff and 1 bullet on him something like that, it was like awesome game back in 98. It still is one of the best games ever.

I think it's great Sony are releasing some genuine classics on the PSN. I bought FFVII the other day and I'm loving it. I never played it back in the day so I'm glad I can play it now. I still have the original 2 disc retail version of MGS so I won't be buying it from PSN but I think this is great for those who want to play it again.

Love the MGS series - played them all and will probably play again. It would be really cool though if they released the old school Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2
