Alone in the Dark 4 is a really good game with dark atmosphere and neat graphics, I love the flash-light. The environment art is beautiful and music really sets the mood. Voice acting is almost acceptable, but not good in any way, this applies especially to the female protagonist, the actress is plain bad. However, the reviewer is wrong about keys, the keys DO have identifying marks, just go in the menu and examine it, it says at the bottom what room it is for, thus saving yourself time by trying to open each door. Also he is wrong about the switches, as you as you press one, the screen shows you just what you did open. I don't know what version he was playing, but on PC and PSX its all good.

Judging from the previews of this game, it seems the developers cut a lot of parts out of the game, good parts too. Such as couple of ghostly characters, and different boss monster in the Library for Aline Cedrac. Swinging around the mansion to get to the locked rooms from balcony, that especially could have added a unique feature to going places than to simply finding keys within the house. Also, voices sounded different with slightly better lines than what we got. Shame it didn't make it in the final cut.

8 out of 10. Go get this game, its worth it.

"The New Nightmare" is an amazingly good game, surely one of the best looking PS1 games, with some flaws alright. Graphics are wonderfully created, and only for that, the game deserved at least a solid 8 as an overall rating, but this a matter of opinion I guess.
