Definitely a rental.

Let me start by saying I did not play Prototype 1 so I don't have a frame of reference between the two. That said, I really liked inFamous and thought this would be similar so I picked it up.
The Feeling you get from gliding around the city and destroying s*** is great. It's fun to level up and gain new mutations in order to find new ways to kill stuff. The problem is that the game is really repetitive and unbelievably easy. After a while it just gets stale and the only real reason to keep going is to complete all the goals and missions.
The story is a huge yawn and you'll find yourself just fast forwarding through the meaningless cut scenes because you could care less what is happening after a while. The free roam feature is fun to a point though feels hollow. Randomly blowing things up and slicing things gets old because it's so easy and just kind of blah.
The game's strength in my opinion is the beautiful visuals and the combat. If you are the type of person who that satisfies and don't mind doing the same thing over and over you'll probably enjoy it.
All in all I would definitely recommend a rental or if you have game pass maybe give it a quick playthrough and save yourself the 60 bucks.
