An welcomed upgrade over the previous one.

User Rating: 8.5 | Prototype 2 X360
Prototype 2 was one of the most awaited games in 2012, where some other great titles are still commin' this year (Like GTA V, Crysis 3, Diablo III and so on). I was one of the most hyped fans of the series and bought it as soon as it came out...let's see:

Graphics 8,5/10: There's no doubt that the developers put some good effort in bringing a quality texture processing over a big area in a very fast motion (wow) to the game, buildings are very detailed, and unlike the predecessor, looks diferent and peculiar one to another. It's easy to mark locations by eyesight as well it's inabitants since the game is split in 3 big areas with distinctive landscape ranging from an Military peacefull area (Green Zone), a Quarantined one (Yellow Zone) to a ravaged and infected landscape (Red Zone). NPC's around the world also look fantastic and have more natural behavior other than just walk around, also the monsters and enemies look more devious and less generic than before, making this a great upgrade regarding aestethics. They sit, engage random conversations even react differently depending on how you are transformed. The special effects from the powers and slaughter also are quite impressive, not onlye the rain of gore but also the way how the environment is destroyed and affected by your actions. And the farsight is a feat that I seldom see in other open-world games (even GTA IV couldn't do that much...in it's on fashion). The only downside here is about some explosions, that still remembers some of the early days of war games on PS2/Xbox games, somehow it's unimpressive and artificial the way as it showed, but not that bad to the point of killing the experience.

Audio 8,5/10: Since the way to dig deeper into the plot is made by missions and audiologs that are around the city (that may answer questions as well raising others) many characters have been well voiced, from pedestrians and hobbos to the main cast. Radio chats looks real and well put, even some in game slanders and jokes came in a somewhat comical fashion seen the plot around the game. The explosions and other effects (like the shapeshifting skills) are nicely done althought sometimes sounds a bit more generic than the eyes can see. Music is well suit for each situation, being more frenetic during chases and fights and more calm well just strolling around the city.

Gameplay 9,0/10: Prototype 2 focus more on fast action than it's predecessor, being that you have less combos to perform (fans complained that there are many "useless" moves to learn from the first one to worth the trouble) and more ways to use each. Unlike the first one, you can use 2 power at a time by setting each one to X oy Y making it easier to deal with oponents that requires some variation on strategy. This change may adress some of the issues from the first one as well may create others, since being more dynamic may loose some depth that others (like myself for a instance) would like. The powers keep being tremendous usefull and neither of them are a "waste of slot". The new Tendril power, for example, is remarkable fun to be used, despite the loss of the armor power, wich I loved in the prime (It will come on a DLC....unfortunally $$$). The parkour system is better integrated are more acessible than the first game, and wandering around the city is more easily done than before, since you got some identificators about landmarks and objects including the name of the current neighborhood that you are one. The game kept the ability to drive the military vehicles in the same fashion as before, and the possibility of just removing their weapons for personal use became funnier than ever. The game alludes you to create mass destruction around the city and is bloody fun to do so. The new evolution scheme, that compels you to hunt especific and marked enemies to add/increase your powers are well made and, in my opinion, is better suited for a shapeshifter than just evolving from collecting points from thin air.

Replay 8,0/10: You can finish the game in less than 10 hours if you rush throught the main plot, but since there's plenty of collectibles (from genetic mutations to logs in corpses), there's plenty for be done for more than one try, however it depends on how much you consider an achievement in this game. Those who pursue the "perfection", most likely will enjoy remain hunting and killing for this objective. The game offers plenty extra side missions, more for those who get the Radnet edition, and since DLC's are on the way, expect for more to (dis)like.

Overall 8,5/10: Prototype 2 is indeed an upgraded version of Prototype, more action have been packed in the title as well more things to be done and a interesting, even if not all that deep, plot to the series. Those who enjoyed the first one would love this and those who didn't can try for a change of opinion. In the end, the game offers the mayhem that you may enjoy for a bunch of days, or just a few hours to pass the time.

See ya in the next time,

Faith
