Bloody good fun

User Rating: 8 | Prototype 2 PS3
Prototype 2 has had a lot of hype over the past couple years since the first trailer started. We have a new protagonist in the game, James Heller, and an old protagonist turned antagonist, Alex Mercer. James Heller is sent out for revenge on Mercer for being responsible for the deaths of his family. But playing Prototype 2 is not about caring for the story or the main character, Heller, it's about just plain good bloody fun. The game tries to give a story with characters, but it's not a interesting one. Heller is just another foul-mouthed protagonist, who is not going to impress people who play the game. The visuals are dated and look like the first Prototype, which was also not a great looking game. What Prototype 2 lacks in story and graphics, it more than makes up in gameplay. Heller is given powers from Mercer and its not long till he figures out how to use them. You will gain 5 creature powers in the game and can upgrade them to be a monster. Attacking enemies and taking their form is great. It is repetitive after doing the same mission objects over and over again though. With each new mission, you gain experience to earn mutations and become stronger and by the end of the game, you are a strong monster. Collectables, Lairs, and Strike teams help further the upgrade system as well. Controls, for the most part, are responsive and you can dodge an enemy easier now than in the first one. However, large battles make it hard to lock onto an enemy you want to fight and the camera is wacky at times. Overall, Prototype 2 is not about the story. It's about bloody fun. 8/10
