Valkyria Chronicles 1 characters like Welkin, Rosy, Largo, and Alicia instead of the Japan only Valkyria Chronicles side story PSP characters....

and Felicia and King were in the game...
and Haseo from Dot Hack GU
and Asura from Asura's Wrath
and Vyse from Skies of Arcadia
and that the game would be released sooner.

I agree about Vyse. Skies of Arcadia should get more exposure. One of the main reasons why I even got Valkyria Chronicles were because Vyse, Aika, and Fina were in the game.

Yeah,I want to see VC1 characters as well...but I think the developer just go with the latest installment to boost its popularity.but still find it a bit strange though,as VC3 chars never been translated at all,so veryy little ppl will know about them.

I don't really agree with the VC3 characters being considered "side story", seeing as it's a numbered game and the cast of VC1 were only important in one game.
But VC3 (and 2) do feel like side stories still.
Either way, VC3 was the latest installment so it's not too surprising. And I don't think they thought this would get out of Japan.

About Valkyria Chronicles 3 characters, the developers (or maybe it was the SEGA representative) mentioned why they wanted to choose VC3 characters. It was in an early interview I believe. Something about these characters are ones you see outside of battle and on the ground, not in the tank.
But, the only who's like that from VC1 is Welkin, and he is outside of the tank occasionally (though most of the time, no.) I would've thought they'd mention something like VC3 characters having multiple preferred classes in the original game (didn't play VC3.) Welkin and Alicia (the only plausible team I could think of) are both Scouts. So they may just be BSing, and VC3 being recent may have something to do with it, but who knows. Kurt seems fine enough to me.
I wish there were a bunch of other characters though. Skies of Arcadia characters being one group.

I'm glad they used the VC3 protagonists. I really liked that game.
Though, I wish they had used Skies of Arcadia as well.

VC3 is technically a side-story to VC1 as they both take place during EWII.
