Project Snowblind is a first person shooter that takes place sometime in the not too distant future. It is an extremely fast paced shooter with non-stop action. Basically throughout the entire game, you are blowing stuff up, shooting everything in sight, and running and gunning for your life. In the game you are Nathan Frost, a regular run of the mill special forces soldier; however, you are only that Nathan Frost for the beginning training mission. Very quickly, because of serious injury, your body undergoes surgery to enhance it with biomodification. As the game progresses, more and more modifications "come online," and you can use more and more of them. Mods like enhanced reflexes (bullet time), enhanced vision (see through walls/night vision), bullet proofing, invisibility, and some sweet Jedi electricity stuff. Once you have a mod, that's it. There is no upgrading to the power, so you won't have worry about anything resembling an RPG here, which is great because it keeps you shooting more without having to think about which mod to do what with. The weapons in the game are amazing. Partly because of their creativity, but mostly because of how many there are. Frost has the standard pistol, machine gun, and shotgun, but there are many more (mine launcher, rocket launcher, fletchet gun, EMP/electro gun, sniper rifle, and many others). Each weapon has a secondary fire too which does devastating damage. For example, the shotgun will fire normal rounds or rounds that explode upon impact for more damage. Each gun sounds sufficiently powerful too, which is very important for a shooter. The plot, while being thin, is easy to follow and good. It is the standard bad guy has a doomsday device and wants to blow up the world, yada yada yada, and you, being a super commando now, must stop him. Along the way you get help from fellow squad members. You do not control them, and you do not have stay with them. They simply tag along every so often (a lot like the marines did in Halo). They are pretty good about shooting stuff and a lot of it too. The story mode will last about 10 hours or so. Not much more than that if at all. The graphics, for being an original Xbox game still look very good. Each level/map is kept smaller too, which means that a large amount of detail/color/graphics could be sandwiched into each level. Also, because the maps are smaller, the load times are very very quick. After just finishing Deus Ex: Invisible War which had 30 second load times for each new destination, the 5 second or less load time of Project Snowblind felt like the speed of light. The gameplay mechanics are smooth as well. Everything feels fairly intuitive and any gamer familiar with the FPS mechanics will have no problem picking up this game quickly. The only downfall to the gameplay comes in switching weapons, grenades, and biomods. In the heat of a firefight it is a bit frustrating to change on the fly to a more effective weapon (because the list is so big it is not likely the weapon you want to use is next in line). Luckily, if you enter the weapon menu screen, it acts like a pause of sorts, allowing you to pick what you want -- in the middle of a raging combat zone. Project Snowblind is a great FPS that could be enjoyed by any fan of the genre. It is fast paced with an amazing amount of ways to create mayhem. Even being an original Xbox game and a few years old it still looks great and plays very smooth. In all honesty, I enjoyed it more than I have many FPS's for the 360. Project Snowblind should definitely be played.
