CES 2013 - Nvidia Shield Hands-On Report

OK, with a $5 HDMI cord, and a $20 Xbox controller, I can already put PC games on my HDTV. Why would I want this?

so AMD card owners are SOL with this device.  It's a shame too, because I honestly though about getting it.  But since an AMD card does not appear to support it, that is Nvidia's loss, not mine.

I see this could work for me. 

I'm a PC gamer. If you're a console guy then this guy makes little sense. My main PC is not plug to TV. There is no way you can work or play MOBA, FPS or RTS on a 40"+ screen. I have two 23" on my main PC and a HTPC in the living room.

With SHIELD, I can safety remove the dated HTPC, and enjoy Action games in large screen and comfortable seat.

Only people not interested are console fanboys and pc elitest but me as a multiplatform gamer I can't wait for this, I'm loyal to nvidia I own a nvidia gtxm660 nvidia and a Gtx 670 in another pc. This does everything I want, android portable android tablet with proper controls. To tell you the truth I would've bought this Even without the PC game streaming.

I think this has potential if they have steam on there as a way to download and play the games without a computer otherwise there seems to be no point to getting this

So  what's the point of having a portable device if you still have to be in close proximity  to your home computer, and the home computer has to be a powerful one? Am I missing something?

Looks cool but the flip of it being waste of money and awesome portable console is simple.

WHAT'S THE DAMN RANGE?

wow ok now this just looks like a total waste of time and money

So I am going to spend 1000 watts with my PC (which is ATI based any way) to play on a tiny screen in my house? Useless!! It would however be a little more interesting to stream over the WEB for real portability which will make it something like Onlive for Steam of course.

This thing looks really goofy and a waste. I won't be able to use streaming since I'm running an HD 7870 in my PC.

I like the digital fireplace in the background.  Very "homey".

I never see how this hardware could justify the proposed price tag...As over-due ergonomic controls are on portables...

Add a mic, camera and motion controlls = PC version of the Wii u

The limits are a little misleading. It took a little longer than it should to figure out that it will only stream certain games, requires an Nvidia card, must be on the same network as your PC, and does not make Julian fries. I can imagine some people seeing it at a store, seeing "Stream games from your PC" and be really disappointed when they open the box.

The frack?  This doesn't seem at all useful if you need to already have a 6xx series GPU.  Not sure there's much of a market for a device like this for people who already have very capable gaming PC's (which are it's only available customers...), though maybe I'm wrong.

So either you run it on your home wifi network to play games that you already have on your PC, or you try to run his on a mobile data network. If there are any of my fellow Canadians out there, you know that this would cost you hundreds of dollars a month in cell phone data.

How far is the range? lol Can i take this thing to work and play it on my break? :P

Streaming games from PC to a handheld device? WHY? No thanks...

I'd rather get a 3DS or Vita.

What a horrible design

I don't get how it works, you need to be near a wireless router and have that router connected to another router linked to a PC that's got steam installed on it to play the games on that PC?

Can someone explain please because this video doesn't tell that much detail.

So you can't install games on this device, just act like an advanced form of Xbox Smartglass?

First why would I stream and play pc games on a small screen if I have a big screen on my computer!! Second why would I buy a device that plays android games if I already have my smartphone to play the exact same game with same graphics and performance!!!

I just don't get hand-held gaming. For what situations is it good for? I guess maybe for people who travel a lot by train, and for people who for some reason have to wait a huge fraction of their lives in lines, but who else? There are not a lot of people who fit into these categories, so why would anyone buy them? I'm sure there is a great reason to, but I just don't get it.

Also the streaming part. Why would I switch to a hand-held if my PC is near and working?

now ive seen it even closer and inperspective i would like to change my view on it from the announcment news post afew days back...... In that i think i said it looks like a Xbox360 pad after it has been ran over by a cartoon steam roller....

I can now see what it really looks like.... on of those 1001games-in-one you get off the market lol!!

A portable console should play console games without needing anything or being close to anything as i see it's just like moving from desktops to laptops not much in it. 

When M$ and Sony pay AMD for their next Consoles, Nvidia start making its own game console haha, It can be great, but Nvidia Should start making some badass exclusive games for it to attract more people and they should add some touch screen on it too...
