Ok, definitely silent hill 2 and 3, and Resident Evil 4 and REmake take the top honors. too tough to put into a heirarchy, because i think the values of these games are at odds with each other. Silent Hill 2 in particular is more effective in its atmosphere and story than almost any other piece of horror media out there, absolutely capable of destroying your sanity as you play it- it makes you as a player analogous to the "protagonist". REmake and 4 are great horror games with amazing game mechanics and controls, but can't compete with SH in terms of story or atmosphere. honorable mentions: Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly and Call of Cthulhu:Dark Corners of the Earth. CoC is an often overlooked game i think, and not only did it succeed in creating a highly playable experience of Lovecraft's fiction (the father of horror imo), it's very atmospheric and genuinely terrifying sometimes. waking up in that hotel room and narrowly escaping through the window with those lunatics chopping down the door behind me... i'm still having nightmares.

Previous playthru it just really pissed me off when Lautrec killed Anastacia, so this time i didn't even let him, killed him in the firelink shrine the minute he hinted and sneered. Bastard. Anybody know if i can still pick up his armor later in Anor Londo, now that I won't be invading his world?

i might have put this in the Demon's Souls board, but then only existing fans would see it. I just picked up a second copy of the game for myself, amazon's got it at 33$.

It is so choice. If you have the means, i highly recommend picking one up.

that's how i felt when i first turned it on - looking at the DSI bootup and thinking the font pixels looked really muddy. ten minutes into my first map on Knights in the Knightmare, i forgot all about it- and i gorged myself on the black sperm of that game's vengeance for hours. it looks ASTOUNDING on the XL. the spell effects and PSIKYO-like glowing bullets explode off the screen. i think KitK, SimCityDS and FFXII Revanant wings are three games that benefit so much from the larger touch surface that they're almost like new games(I only owned the dslite, so the screen jump is HUGE). i feel so much more confident now selecting my troops in revenant wings!

just curious as to how people feel about the build quality of the XL. got a bronze from amazon on launch and the right side front faceplate (around the face buttons and start/select) was loose like it hadn't been glued down or snapped in properly. when holding the unit with two hands, or when using the face buttons, the plate would creak and rattle like an old wood floor. at the seam above the SD card slot, the face plate actually rose above the side panel by about .5mm. not a problem as Amazon has already taken care of me and shipped my replacement, but i was wondering if this was happening with others. the build across the rest of the unit was perfect, tight and solid like a new iMac - like i expect from nintendo. so what's the concensus?

i have the triforce edition ds lite, and got an xl on release day. the screens and speakers are amazing. i've actually acclimated so much to it's size that now the lite feels a bit small and cramping. definitely worth it in my opinion.

hey man i got one on amazon for 8$US about 6 months ago that is unbelievable. it's made by Intec. plain white, interior has really good soft rubber lining and the fit is secure without being rough on the dslite's exterior sliders and buttons. the top panel of the interior holds 6 games. here's a link

i'm six months in to owning a ps3, and have had a 360 since Oblivion came out. While the ps3 is clearly the better built machine, and probably has a much longer life span to look forward to both in terms of hardware life and technological ceiling, the library is a JOKE. i already have almost everything worth owning for the system at 8 games. 8 games. compared to maybe 80 games on the 360, most of which are stellar titles. now, i love Blu ray and there's no getting past the fact that i use my ps3 more for movies and netflix than for gaming. but multiplatform titles are still better in almost every instance on teh 360 due to the easy development, and the exclusives there have been every bit as strong as the ps3's. and yes, the hidden fees for premium online services on the ps3 pretty much negate any argument that psn is "free".

AND ONE THING THE 360 KILLS THE PS3 ON: CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS. on anything. the first time i tried to play music in the bg of Infamous and the ps3 told me i couldn't, i wanted to cry. when i play games on the 360, i constantly stream music and the 360 mixes the stereo into the 5.1 surround ambience perfectly. PS3 FAIL. most games license the worst mainstream music or have useless pretentious western bg music. the west never learned to make interesting video game music.

each controller has it's ups and downs; somewhere in between teh ps3 and 360 controllers is the perfect controller. take the dpad and analog face buttons of the ps3, and use the ergonomics, sticks and triggers of the 360. that would be so perfect.

i'm too in love with gaming to choose either side a winner, and you can too!
