Which Means Visceral Games is going to start doing cutscenes again in Star Wars. Say goodbye to uninterupted interactions and hello to "put the joystick down... Its story time" lol !

No seriously... Cutscenes suck.

Ehh each to his own, but I really enjoy cutscences.

This reminds me of the thread over on Comicbookresources where some posters on the Avengers forum whined that Wiccan and Hulking's(Billy and Teddy) relationship was being shoved down their throats. I'll say the same thing here that I said over there. People who complain about this stuff only complain when it is a gay relationship being portrayed. You never see anyone complain that straight relationships are being shoved down their throats. Some people are gay and are culture is finally starting to reflect that. Get over it!

I love open world games, and you can't really have a linear RPG, that would be pointless.

Venom_Raptor
Sure you can. Nearly all of the Bioware games were linear non-open world games/sandbox games and they are considered some of the best RPGs made.

I'll pay it if I like the game.  I plan to buy it when it comes out.  I've complained in another thread about how I dislike Skyrim, but I feel like the Elder Scrolls are the perfect setting for an MMO so I'm looking forward to it.

My biggest problem with the current trend towards open-world games is that I rarely care about the characters I meet in that world.  I don't think I could name a single NPC from either Oblivion or Skyrim.  I found them to be bland and without much personality.  Whereas I willl never forget Canderous Ordo, for example.  I do like some open-world elements in RPGs.  I think the Witcher series accomplished it the best.  It was broken up into stages and each stage was very large with plenty of side quests, but the characters were interesting and there was a strong narrative to give the game focus as well as a variety of ways for the player to influence that narrative.  I still think the Witcher's grey morality is a huge improvement over Bioware's saint or serial killer approach to morality.

I remember reading a review recently on this website, I can't remember which game, but the reviewer took off points because he said the game was too linear, but the game wasn't trying to be an open-world experience.  Linearity isn't always a bad thing in games and I don't like current trend where linearity is seen as automatically bad especially if a game is trying for that.  It's like me taking off points for Call of Duty being an FPS.  I hate FPS games, but if it's intends to be an FPS and is a good example of that genre  then I shouldn't fault it for that.

You're first mistake was playing a Bethesda game. Also a heads up, don't play Rockstar Games either. Keep that in mind and you might stumble upon an open world game thats actualy entertaining.Lulu_Lulu
Any recommendations?

The more open world games the better. I feel like I've had enough of linear shooters and action sequences filled with scripted events to last me for years.

I can't stand shooters either. But I do miss RPGs like Baldur's Gate and the original Knights of the Old Republic.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm really getting sick of this emphasis on open world games especially in RPGs.  Skyrim, for example, was an okay game, but to me it felt a lot like I was playing an MMO alone.  I'm starting to really miss the days where RPGs were driven more by story and characters and had quests with good writing as opposed to wandering in the forest until you find a dungeon to explore that has very little backstory.  Even the main storyline in Skyrim was rather generic.  Does anyone else think RPGs could benefit from a bit more linearity?

Hmm I'm really tempted to spend the 7.50$ on Dark Souls Prepare to Die editon or Borderlands II for 10$.  Hmm which do you all think is the better deal?

I'm hoping the new Tomb Raider will be on sale.
