It's a BETA Demo. Congrats on realizing that it's not perfect.

Every other beta I've played has problems. Why should UT3 be the exception?

Instead of whining, post your spec and problems on Epic's forums or something.

If you don't like the way the game looks and/or plays, don't buy it. For those that do, yay for us.

The thing about games of "war" are that there need to be enemies, and in order to fight our enemies with conviction (both in video games, and real life) we have to villainize them.

If we do not villainize our enemies, our soldiers won't fight enough. Why do you think television and movies have portrayed persons from the middle east as Villains for so long?

Only a select few movies, television programs, and styles of game take into account the "Other" perspectives. Take a look at the two movies by Clint Eastwood (director): Flags of Our Fathers, and Letters from Iwo Jima. These movies are companions - one looks at war through the eyes of the United States and the other (letters) looks at it from the Japanese perspective, going so far as to be in their native language.

Command & Concquer and similar RTS games often have multiple campaigns (even Warcraft RTS games do this). These campaigns are all in a ficticious world, though.

Then look at the Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 games - we're forced, quite often, to play for "the other guys", and the audio is by default in the appropriate language. Say what you will about this franchise as a game, but it does a better job than many at being neutral.

Seems the rest of the games take a strong "us vs. them" perspective that demonizes. Half-life does it (against aliens and, later, a corrupt government or whatever); Quake has done it (against aliens), Splinter Cell does it, and Unreal Tournament... well, Unreal just dishes out pain judicously to all involved.

Should we demand more from our entertainment? I think so, but the problem with MASS entertainment is that it OFTEN caters to the STUPIDEST COMMON DENOMINATOR, or at least the average intelligence. And, I hate to tell you, there are a lot of stupid people out there to whom we are catering our entertainment. Once again, ignorance and anthropocentrism overpower our desire for culturally diverse forms of entertainment.

EDIT: I want to note that the smart people do not use games to help them form opinions of other cultures, but they might affect the society in which we live. I certainly do not care who the enemy is in a video game; I would not feel terrible about fragging virtual Americans, though I am one in real life.

Research a game before you spend $50 on it?

Seriously... buyer beware. Welcome to the REAL WORLD.

And it's tHrash metal, not trash metal.

I think that's a matter of opinion - I'm sure plenty of people would put tHrash metal in the tRash

[QUOTE="lacrimosamo"]Why would anyone be excited for that? Dragonforce is just another of the million crappy power metal bands around. I' ll be excited if Sodom, Sadus, Cathedral, even Slayer were included.limpbizkit818

Agreed. For some reason Dragonforce has become populare and main stream, nothing great at all about them.

A good agent that knew how to get their name out there and in the right channels. Those two guys can shred pretty fast but umm... who cares. /yawn

You have to realize, games have to be coded and optimized for the system they are being used on. A game that was originally x360 ONLY, for instance, is only optimized and has textures etc. for only 1 level of graphics and speed/looks optimization.

Rainbow 6 was developed for multi-platform, including the PC, and by a different company - that is, not Epic. Epic licenses out its Unreal 3 engine to other developers to use as a launching point.

Gears of War was developed by Epic, of course, and the game was produced for the xbox 360 only initially. For whatever reason - I don't care enough to research, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were paid a lot to do so. Now the company is porting its own game to PC, and I imagine this is because they signed a contract saying they had to wait 12 months or something before releasing it on the PC. And I wouldn't be surprised if they agreed not to ever publish the title for the PS3, since Killer Apps are so important in selling a system.

This is much like the Halo to PC port - the game was ported much later, after it had served its purpose of selling xbox consoles.

Yes, i'm so bored I took the time to explain all this.

[QUOTE="artanisxvi"]just for reference, if you want to transfer gold between an alliance and horde character, just have the one receiving gold put some green or some other cheap item on the Neutral auction house and have the sending player buy itzbiggie

unless someone outbids you or buys out first, lol

That would be a GOOD thing, then they just "sent" you THEIR gold and bought a feather for 1k gold. If I could only be so lucky as to have that happen to me...

But yea, if it's same-faction just send it in the mail. If not, gotta use a goblin AH from neatural city (everlook, gz, etc.)

I'm sure somebody else has pointed this out by now, but thought I'd state the obvious...

THIS IS NOT A COMPREHENSIVE LIST!

The people at Gamespot have plenty of things to do besides putting all of the games up at once. They add a new game every once in a while as they get around to doing it.

Patience!

And, my two cents... C&C was perhaps an IMPORTANT game, but I do not think it was better than WC1 or TA. WC1 captured my imagination and introduced me to multiplayer RTS + modem gaming. C&C I also played online (perhaps it was C&C:RA I played online?), but WC1 was more memorable and had more impact on my memory. TA was the same way - although it was perhaps less popular than the C&C games, there's no denying that it was an amazing piece of work.

Does C&C belong on the list? Perhaps. But there's a number of games that aren't on the list yet that should be.
