I have to comment on this..
Last year when the remake of FF6 came out I was going to buy it at my local Gamestop. The copy was opened.
Im surprised no one has posted this yet, maybe its really something the general public does not know. If the gamestop you shop at was previously a Funco Land/EB/Software Etc then the employees are allowed to open one copy of all games in store and take it home to play amongst employees.
I know this because a few years ago I worked as a holiday hire at the Software Etc in my local mall. At the time employees were allowed to pass around what was termed "a store copy" of every game in stock. You know when you go into gamestop and sometime the clerk has to go into the drawer of game discs in paper sleaves, those are the games they get to play.
OK, so back to purchasing FF6...
So I told the clerk I wanted a copy he said they had only one left in stock. As he was ringing up my "brand new" game I realized it was open. Informed him i did not want a used copy, he said it wasnt used... I then told him that I was aware employees are allowed to take home the games, and blanking out the saves doesnt = brand new. The employee i was dealing with denied that GS employees are allowed such a privelage. During this dispute another employee had come out of the back store room, probably the current shift manager, who overheard our conversation and spoke up saying that in fact Gamestop employees are allowed to take home copies of any game in stock to play. Seeing that I had caught then trying to pass off used goods as new he offered to sell me the copy at the current used price, I declined and went to best buy where they had FF6 in stock and not already opened and played.
