Lately around Gamespot I have been seeing a lot of reviews where the games were either given a score way too high or too low.
Now before you say 'Oh, thats just personal opinion' hear me out. A while back Gamespot posted the Rating System, including a 'Scale' which elaborated on what each score meant.
One of the reviews that come to mind on the matter of unfair scoring is ZombiU, it's review can be found here. In the review the reviewer Maxwell McGeegives the game a 4.5, fair enough, the game must not of been his 'type' of game.
However, the rating scale says that a 4.5 is:
4.0 - 4.5:Games that just don't work right and maybe didn't spend enough time in production tend to fall in to this category. They simply lack the cohesion and quality that make other games fun.
Now, throughout the review, the reviewer never mentions any bugs, his only complaint was the repeditive combat, poor puzzles and some inconsistancies in the storyline.
From what was mentioned in the review, the game matched more of a:
6.0 - 6.5:Games that earn 6-range ratings have certain good qualities but significant problems as well. These games may well be worth playing, but you should approach them with caution.
And possibly even a 7, which you can find outlined in the Rating System.
