I'm pretty torn with this one. On one hand, Johnny brings up some good points that the review criticism has been blown to pieces by fans of the series. On the other hand, I feel that the criticism in the review is unwarranted; the fact that woman are portrayed as weak individuals is entirely part of the Grand Theft Auto series (see any grand theft auto game ever), as is crime, murder, torture, manslaughter etc. Does it make any of these things "right"? No, and none of these topics should be compared to their real-world counterparts.
If you're going to criticize and review a game based on its values and motives, GTA should receive a 1.0, because if you're going to bring in personal opinions on real-world issues and compare them to a video game, you need to compare all aspects, not just one topic that hits home for you.
It isn't okay to be a womanizer in the real world, nor is it okay to be a thief, or a murderer, all of which are included in this game. If one of these topics bothers you that much, maybe include it as a side-note in the review, but you can't demerit the content from a topical opinion.
I could care less that the game received a 9.0, or even if it received a 7.0. I'm enjoying it, and respect reviewers' opinions, but personal opinions on certain topics touched on in a game shouldn't be included in a 'professional' review.
The worst video review I've ever watched. I don't think a 3 minute review can do any game justice, especially not one of (if not the) most anticipated games of this consoles' generation. I've seen some pretty sketchy reviews, but this ices the cake of no credibility entitlement on Gamespot's part. It isn't even a well thought out review, it completely misses some pretty significant aspects of the game, and the attributes he does touch on are inaccurate (eg: AI friendly characters making loud noises, while the girl is whispering, and the blind "Clicker" enemies not reacting to being in your line of sight- obviously.) I don't care that the game isn't out yet; this review is completely misinformed about already-revealed facts of the game. Uninformed, inaccurate, review that wouldn't do any video game justice in my opinion.
@AceMarine45 I can understand the issues you mentioned, as well as the issues he mentions, but it doesn't seem to warrant a 5.0 review; the lowest of 16 reviewers on Metacritic. The servers will inevitably be fixed within a week or two. It is still unacceptable for EA to provide shit service to their customers (for this, and most of their other games), but I just feel it deserves a 6.5-7.5 score server issues aside.
And here I was hoping it would be reviewed by literally anyone else for some real insight. Not an RPG? This guy will give a narrow-sighted vision into the game.
Really fun game; deserves a 7-8. The only hindering is the dumb AI, otherwise the game is a great tactical stealth shooter. I guess Rebellion didn't pay enough to get a high score?
