The games I typically play most on my series S are either the latest nhl game(I didn't play nhl 23 though but I do plan to play nhl 24 eventually), halo infinite/mcc or whatever indie game interests me. I do buy games once or twice a year.

@SolidGame_basic: its a dumb article...because it mentions xbox has had no big AAA exclusive games. Well, COD belongs to MS, so does diablo and all that jazz. You forget halo infinite, starfield, forza horizon, motorsport and so on. These are gigantic games, and cost more to make than all of the trash on sonys consoles. Not to mention the elephant in the room, the 800lb gorilla which is gamepass.

The problem has absolutely nothing to do with games, in fact its the exact opposite. There are so many games, xbox is flooded. The problem is the audience, and its just like Phil says...the people are not really on the xbox platform, they are more interested in the playstation platform and the switch platform. The people are elsewhere, because those consoles drove more interest and engagement, and have locked them down to a large extent. We could have the best game ever created on xbox and it wouldn't drive as much interest because frankly the people just aren't there. And no, games don't sell consoles these days. Console hardware and marketing sells consoles.

Spencer goes beyond that by talking about gen z and the lack of growth in the console market in general.

Has Xbox had a single serious GOTY-contender during his reign? Can’t think of one.

Forza horizon 5 was the closest. Hi-fi rush and psychonauts 2 also go high praise.

Eh. Spencer is leading the xbox brand at a time of transition that is not just impacting microsoft but the entire gaming industry. I think to many are tied down by the past instead of looking towards the future or the current reality which is a stagnant console market, higher production costs and a new generation of gamers that don't necessarily want to buy a physical box. Exclusives will still be important but at the same time companies will have to figure out how to properly navigate the new reality. There are obviously things xbox can improve like their localisation efforts though.

Well I don't know about Epic but it certainly makes sense that this would happen for Game Pass. Microsoft has an abundance of developers now to provide content for Game Pass. They were bound to rely less on third party content as time went on.

Yeah, I don't really get it: was anyone really expecting otherwise?

If I can get 5 or 6 AA-AAA games a year with Game pass I've gotten my fair share.

Pretty much even though outside of halo and nhl I have been playing AA games lately.

The price of both the series X and ps5 are still quite high in canada. The series x still costs around $650 in canada and the ps5 ranges from $579-$650 depending on the model. A PS5 pro will likely cost $700+ unless something changes. I don't think their is a justification for a mid gen upgrade this time because the base consoles still cost a lot of money to get, there aren't many exclusives for them and better looking games isn't as big of a selling point compared to 4k support.

You still on the S?

Obviously. I plan to upgrade to an X in june or july. I have just under 500 CAD in MS reward points saved up right now. Also obviously you can trade in your old consoles for the ps5 pro but I don't think most people are going to take advantage of that.

@kathaariancode

Thank god the PS5 is much quieter. My cousins ps4 was literally a jet engine when it turned on.

I'm not even discussing the woke crap (though they have shown that). I'm discussing the harassment the SBI employees levied at the Steam Curator, which had a Streisand effect and brought it mainstream, to which Kotaku and PCGamer tried to play defence in a laughable play.

Just try to keep the discussion as best as possible to the IGN article about RE5 even though I know SBI will be talked about a bit in this thread to. This thread has mostly been calm so that is why it hasn't been locked.

Because there won't be any! Anyone making a thread on any SBI subjects, we will shut that shit down!

Why?

Social cowardice.

Paradoxical. On one side, many gaming boards forbid any political discussion, but injecting games with political agenda and propaganda is A-OK. Hypocrisy truly has become paramount.

RE5 racist? Looked at through a lense it most propably was to some.

Some time ago i watched a Twiligth episode on youtube. The Paladin of the Lost Hour. Had a older white guy and a middle aged black man as protagonists. I read the comments at one point. And one said "racist trash".

Nah. Discussion of the original gamergate was quite toxic at the time so we want nothing to do with it. It wasn't as bad on gamespot itself despite some off-site stuff, but with a lot of topics similar to this one and the SBI one they can blow up in a bad way sometimes. Plus like davillian said it's pretty much gamergate 2.0. We are allowing discussion on this topic but pleas don't try to discuss SBI at the same time.

With my tax returns, finally jumped into next (this) gen.

Xbox Series X.

Nice. I have 330k MS reward points saved up for a series X right now. I plan to upgrade to a series X in a few months. The recent reduction in the cost of redeeming gift cards in Canada helps me a bit.
