Actually, older games, arcade and console alike, were far more formulaic than what we currently enjoy.

That isn't subjectivism but stark and undeniable reality; an inevitable and logical conclusion we arrive to when conducting a survey of each generation's respective software.

Contemporary games offer a much larger spectrum of variety, along with varied genres and subgenres. Digital distribution and indie games have also facilitated diversity, thus the conclusion that games are currently entrenched in formulaic design is a nonsensical if not downright ignorant postulation.

These types of threads are always based on the most tenuous of evidence, usually anecdotal blather from somebody who clearly hasn't put much thought into their hypothesis.

Grammaton-Cleric

Not really. It is you who is uninformed and ignorant. There is a huge problem with modern video games and I hope that the industry suffers another crash. You can lie all you want but you are not fooling me.

Did I just stumble into System Wars?

IndianaPwns39

I was reading the third page and had to scroll up to see if I was in PGD or if I accidentally wandered into a System Wars thread.

What is system wars and what does that have to do with anything? All I stated is that Nintendo makes video games, and they do not try and make interactive movies.

 Not sure if it will impact development

Why would it? Every Clone of Duty game is copy and paste. A monkey could repaste the coding.

For what? Also, I am seeing many people agreeing with me, so it looks like I am right and you are wrong.

[QUOTE="WhiteKnight77"]

I do NOT buy CoD, yet they still keep on making them! I wish they would stop making those crappy games!

[QUOTE="Lucky_Krystal"]

Yeah its ALL microsoft's fault! I blame Microsoft for 9/11, AIDS, and the ****** economy too!!

Lucky_Krystal

No one is saying that, except you. Microsoft is largely at fault for modern gen formulaic crap though, that is for damn sure, whether or not you want to admit to it.

This thread is a little too much fun.

Didn't or can't?

[QUOTE="MarkAndExecute"]Sure must be nice being so ignorant eh?Lulekani

It's not ignorance. It's a fact that games continue to get worse and worse because developers are running out of ideas and they're too scared to take two steps outside the box.

People who say things like "You're not playing the right games, there are plenty of great games," are in denial. The overall quality of games today has declined GREATLY since the last generation. I can't even count how many amazing gems there are on the PS2. The PS3 has about five so far.

The rest of games that are hyped on the PS3 are painfully generic and predictable.

Sure the PS2 has been around much longer. But if the PS3 is to have nearly as many gems as the PS2 by the end of this generation, it's got some serious catching up to do.

Come On Dude. . . . Don't be "that guy", you know. . . . That guy that never enjoys anything because of his relentless pursuit of perfection reinforced by clearly subjective nostalgia, the old days aren't nearly as good as you remember them to be. So be a pal, and lets play some games relavent to the present.

It is not about nostalgia. I am sick of that cliche and wrong argument.

It is about quality.

It seems like games aren't as good as they use to be. The only games I will be spending money on this year are Gears of War: Judgement and the Assassins Creed sequel. Every year I have been buying less and less games. Do you guys agree or disagree that there aren't that many amazing games coming out any more.BdogTheGamer

You are complaining about video game quality in decline, yet you buy God of War and Assassin's Creed. You have me so confused.

GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, Watchdogs, The Last Of Us all look like super high quality games to me, so I'm not really sure what you are talking about :|.Sushiglutton

All of those games look pretty terrible to me.

I don't know it's the quality, or what. But I have to say, it's rare that I play a game now that can really pull me in, or keep me playing more than a week or two. Canuck3000

This. I believe it has only happened with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls for me, this gen.

[QUOTE="soundcellx"]If you shut me up you will only make a martyr out of me. I am the good guy and you all are the bad guys. I am pro-video games, you all are anti-video games.worlock77

Oh my god... :lol:

Seriously dude, get out of the house sometime. Go for a walk or a nice Sunday drive. Visit an art gallery. Socialize. Maybe even get laid.

I go to the gym every other day, so how is that for going out of the house? I like driving and do it often.
