@mastermetal777: i have no qualms on revising, or mainstreaming. I just dont think they shoukd do it at the expense of "alienating the core audience" like you said.

Some companies are coming to realise it and some are not.

We have all seen It happen. Your beloved franchise is coming out with a new title and the trailer looks awesome but something doesnt feel right about the gameplay trailer... You find out after shelving out a hesitant 65$ that your game is now the dreaded, "Casual Game"'

If you dont know what Im talking about look at Dragon Age Origins, clearly a game made for a distinct group of people. RPGers, DnD fans, and then Dragon Age 2 came out. Well...you can do flips in it? The abilities and levels progress is watered down. The magic sparkles more than tinker bells hot ass. Dungeons all have the same graphics. The producers even pushed the gay factor, as to get as much publicity as possible. I have no problem with gay stuff personally, but when it becomes a selling point and someone clearly is pushing an agenda it takes away from the game.

DA2 was clearly a game made to aqcuire the most revenue....but do they really make more money in the end?

The post here is not to bash any game in particular, its more in the preservation of the game industry itself. I once heard a quote from Miyazake- "When you make a movie for everyone, it will appeal to no one."

I think this philosophy rings very true in video games too.

What do you think about the "Casualization of Franchises" and what games did you love that this happened to?

The internet is a messed up place, there is no doubt about that. Interactive video games can be the same way. Its the lack of accountability mixed with immature people that makes a volatile cocktail. On the other hand thats part of the reason the net is special. Its almost unadulterated freedom which in turn needs more responsible people. Its not so much words need to be banned as much as people on the net should show eachother more respect and kindness. Ifs responsibility

@HipHopBeats: that is actually a really good idea that they could easily add in right now without stepping on any toes. Switching between zelda and link stories...they could even remake other games with playable zelda? That wouldnt be too hard...

(Let me start off with a notice that I am not here to hurt any fanboy feelings, Ijust want to daydream about my perfect Zelda game, and listen to some other ideas about it.)

I was reading an earlier post and it was talking about the creators of Zelda realizing tutorials were too long and such. It struck me how they could be so blind to the bigger picture for most beloved Zelda fans like myself.

OOT was like revelation to me. I was amazed by the aspect that you grew up in the game and that it turned nighttime while you were playing. It was the scope of being in a life-like world that intrigued me more than anything. It's kinda like the feeling I got from Oblivion all those years back. As we all know Zelda game, for the most part have gotten more linear as the days go on and I completely lost interest for the first time with SS. It wasnt a bad game but it seemed like the series was no longer geared towards people like me. It isnt just the Zelda series that I think has turned away from it's base but Ithink this was the most dissapointing one for me. Dragon Age 2 did the same thing in my opnion and I think for the most parts they are trying to make the games into "Everyone games" for more money or whatever...Ihave no problem with that but are they paying a price for that?

Anyways, back to Zelda...

A premiere Zelda game for me would have to include, an open and living world like OOT. Beautiful and emotional music (I give props for SS, they did an amazing job with the score) They need some new content with enemies and such with maybe a throw back or two, every now and then. Ithink in all the franchise needs to grow up and relfect a gritty side like Twilight princess but also a wonderment like Shadow of the Collosus with a combat system more like Demon Souls where every step in enemy territory is intense and every boss encounter dreadful. THe last thing is they need more EMOTION, and it doesnt have to be melodramatic. OOT had great emotion without the characters even crying. I remember Link just standing their staring at young Zelda and I could feel the immense pressure on the two young people as they came to realize their destinies. Anyways, I;ve talked enough. Let me know what you think should be in a Zelda game below.

Its amazing to me that he is just coming to this realization. It seems that the Nintendo higher-ups have created some kind of un-creative bubble where safety lies and progress dies. Dont get me wrong it's certainly not just Nintendo, however I do believe they are the worst about this kind of thing.

What I wouldnt give for a Zelda game that is serious, more emotionally engaging, the puzzles can stay (however, Im not a fan) more like a souls game Ithink with an interesting story.

The dark, creepy aspect of Zelda has always worked for it. We need more of that and less kid gloves. Give me a link that takes an arrow to the neck for his beloved Zelda, but still keeps fighting against the evil desert wizard, with all odds stacked against him. Not a Link that flies around on a cartoon bird and has a cliche, gay-anime-villain as an antagonist.
