I have to agree, I am rather disappointed in the ai, the size of armies you have are quite puny, the lack of blood, the battles dont feel as realistic...it's just another rome game with updated graphics, but I can imagine darth mod will make some serious improvements.

It's worth getting for the mods that will come out alone though, but it is a rather bummer that they didn't fullfill on their promise for massive armies.  Also as far as I know none of the ships have cannons or anything....I've always found it boring having naval battles that just use archers and ramming, but I could be wrong I have just started playing the game.

DarthMod will not be released for Rome II and that is an official statement.

He is working on a new game on his own site http://www.ultimategeneral.com/

I think it will require Steam, you will not be able to play without it.

I certainly believe so, that most people are casual players but it doesn't have to be so cruel. My point was that they have to move towards that direction ( not only in the case of dying ) and not to totaly rip off it. The authentic experience had it, it is of a designer's task to succesfully implement it in a "casual" game to make it worthy.

*sniff* If I had the ability to create a game as I like it it would be so "single-player" *sniff* even if I would have paid people to play it. Why casual players have to be so...uhm...casual?

First of all I want this ridiculous thing, that anyone can see what level you are and anything to stop...I may start now...

Speaking of next gen mmorpg's is pretty easy. All you have to do is think about the origins of the genre and about the limitations of a computer game.Compare the two different experiences and find the ways to bring them together. While that was the case back when the good old computer rpg-games were designed, this isn't any more. And that is because there has been a great success for some games and so this success had to be copied. So it wasn't an effort of designing the next gen MMORPG but a matter of quick adoption of that success by the companies.

For me the greatest let down of a MMORPG is the single-player design. You do the same things others do, speak to the same NPC's for receiving the same quest or reward and take part to the same loose or not story.

Is this massive?

Yes it is.

Is this multiplayer?

Sure it is.

But then what it is not?

It is not RPG, and the less RPG it is, the less MMO it gets.

So what I would like to see to a next gen MMORPG would be the effort of coming closer to a pen and paper rpg in terms of fun, party, story, imagination, interactivity, quests, exploration, combat and variety in general.

Anything would be a good addition and anything would be a next gen feature.

But to speak less theoretically and be more practical, my favorite idea of interpretation would be the way a character is being evolved and die in a classic rpg and the ability to become an avatar and NPC.I really would love to see a game that you actually die!It would be great if you think about it.And it would certainly make you want some more, and it would definetely make you feel real strong and special while you grow on experience.

But I already see you people laughing at me.OK.Maybe that was too next gen.I admit it.
