@sfirita: It is a poor reason to exclude comparing them just for that reason. Rather you factor in issues of development funding and team size when making the comparison.

Let's take a game like Endless Space 2 for example. It is built by a small dev with a modest budget. It's also a game with a space setting with multiple planets in a galaxy wide setting. Now which would you out of Endless Space 2 and Star Citizen use in a comparison with No Man Sky? Well, it would depend on what you want to compare, but you'll more likely use SC as in terms of game focus and genre it would be a superior match over a turn based 4X strategy game.

The far more important issue is what the games are or trying to be. A far better reason to be cautious in comparing NMS and SC is that they are trying to be different things. They are in the same broad genre, but NMS wants to be a SP FP survival exploration game, SC wants to be a story-driven SP space shooter on one hand and a space-trading and combat MMO. That is far more important in comparing them than just simply looking at money and calling it unfair.

@sfirita: One having more money behind it is actually a pretty poor reason to not compare them. Why they get compared is that they fall in a fairly board genre and as such will have aspects of their game, some quite major aspects others more minor, that are the same or very similar. Comparing how each address those parts can be worthwhile.

Star Trek: Phase II: It is only 40 years late.

Never been a fan of the concept art for that Enterprise, which they have clearly used. In fact there is even concept art of the triangle-prise leaving a asteroid base from the late 1970s. That said, it isn't really the ship that makes the show its the characters.

Sad to hear about the villain being under the "Bad" heading. The reboot has had very good actors take on the role, but doesn't seem to be able to really get the best out of them. Wouldn't mind in the future if they committed to a story arc over 2 or 3 films as a way to deal with that. Though I guess it is a writing issue and you can have good villains without multiple films.

With a new TV series coming next year and this the end of the 3 film deal for the main cast I wonder when the next film will be and what it will be?

woah, that image of Rihanna looks more like this is meant for the Conjuring or Insidious or some other horror flick. I might not sleep tonight it's that terrifying.

The song might be okay, but it just feels weird. This isn't Bond, which has a history of using pop music for themes or credits. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. Safe to say whether this song is good or not will have no impact on whether Beyond is going to be any good. Though her involvement in this film will still probably be better than Battleship regardless.

The campaign sounds grander than what it is. It's actually a single scenario and you have multiple objectives in that rather than a campaign with separate missions.

The two new races are done well and you get some very nice new ship designs and new parts to use when designing your own ships. Can't say I found the Mercs to be as gamebreaking as the reviewer, though it would be nice if you could disable them if you didn't want them in a game. Though I agree that as an expansion this is pretty light for the price. You're not really getting a lot for your $20.

@snugglebear: It's only unreliable in the sense that it is equating two ratings that aren'tfor the same thing. One, the 4, is for Mercenaries alone. The 7 is user reviews for GC3 (which Gamesport gave an 8).

So long Sword of the Stars II! No longer will you mock me by reminding me of my foolish mistake in believing Kerberos would finish the game rather than getting the no questions asked refund Paradox offered immediately after launch.

The type of gamer I am means I don't understand why you would buy everything immediately. For me it would kind of ruin the sandbox/MMO, or whatever the non-campaign part is. An important part of these types of games is the strive to achieve the goal of getting something new and exciting and you lose that if you just go straight to the end.

@nikolistary: I think it basically boiled down to the ending felt rushed, was poorly explained and the differences in the choices seem extremely superficial. The last was probably the biggest factor as Bioware made a song and dance about how choices matter and would make a huge difference to the ending. In reality, it just seemed all you did was pick a hue for the cutscene. It isn't very hard at all to understand why a significant number of people were very disappointed.

Anyway, the number of choices or even if the choice actually changes things often doesn't matter. What matters is that the choices fits into the roles you play the characters and that they remain true to the story. It is something Telltale is excellent at doing, maybe even the best at doing.
