Occupy GS

I assume that anyone that has bothered to read this blog (either by tracking me or clicking on my sig) will know that I had a previous sig where I was 'running in the mod election'.
As most of you know, there was no 'mod election'. GS does not believe that users should have a voice in choosing those that govern them/apply the TOU...it is "invite only".

My previous sig was removed, and I was suspended for a week (later overturned)...despite not being suspended in 2 years or having a non-overturned TOU violation in 6 months...this despite being told my sig was okay to have.
You can read it here (@20 posts per page):
"Roll with it, none of the admins have objected so do what you want to do"

I raised my concerns about how my suspension was handled and about my concerns dealing with the overall issue here
...you can see how that went
"We are an INVITE-ONLY process when it comes to volunteer moderators."

So now I am doing the only things I am allowed to do
"If you had posted a blog about this desire and then sent us a link to said blog with the glowing recommendations then things would have transpired differently."
...
"Synthia told you that you could make a blog about the idea you'd like to be a mod, which is fine. But the campaigning of vote for me as a moderator is not accepted."

...so here is my blog

Also, I created a thread on the general idea here (for those interested)

Old Guys of GS

There was a string of conversations a while back that got me thinking (which, incidentally, is never a good thing…me being a knowledge consumer, not a knowledge producer…but I digress).

Anywho, the long and the short of it was that me, entropyecho, and atmanix said it would be great if we had an 'Old Guys of GS' Union.
(note: this includes girls as well…would be open to users above a certain age)
Atmanix and I further discussed the issue. There are many 'older' users that we enjoy actually 'talking' to...weird, I know.

Positives:
-get to talk to select older users that are interesting, pleasant, and (most importantly) humorousposters
-a little more control over the forum
-it is nice to be able to talk with people closer in age from time to time
-there are plenty of people that I would WANT to join

Negatives:
-UNIONS ARE DEAD
-need a Leader (someone that really knows GS and is good at actually being a leader)
-other users (not in the union) provide the LULZ in the first place...hard to laugh with/at those that are not there
-lots of the desirable candidates may not (probably would not) want to join

I just wanted to know what some of you guys out there thought about this.
If I had to make a poll, it would go something like this
-it is like Communism (great in theory, bad in practice)
-a good idea
-a bad idea
-**** you old people, get off GS

So what do you guys think?

Alcohol

ALCOHOL

I have reached that point in my life. Everyone has a "that point". Although exactly what "that point" is, is usually different for everyone.

I have come to the realization that my weekend (and often times weekday) activities are rather stupid. Drinks cost a lot of money, are not good for you, and the bars themselves do not exactly promote physical wellness either:

1. I pay a lot of money to drink something that poisons my body and liver and sometimes makes me feel like crap the next day.

2. I pay to go to someplace that is filled with smoke thereby ruining my lungs, and I hate smoking.

3. The typical county bar plays music at like 5 million decibels, so I am ruining my hearing.

4. I have to work extra hard at the gym to offset my drinking activities.

5. I have been known to make some questionable (to say the least) decisions while I am impaired.

Now I consider myself to be very intelligent (graduated summa cum-laude three times intelligent). So one might ask why the hell a perfectly intelligent person would do something so stupid. Why would someone voluntarily pay tons of money to harm their liver, ruin their hearing, smell like smoke, make bad decisions, and feel like crap the next day.

Well the answer is pretty simple: It is fun as hell.

There is nothing better than getting dressed to go to a country bay with your friends. I get to hang out with the best people in the world (IMO). I get to look at beautiful girls (hey it is dark, everyone looks hot). I get to drink something that makes me feel great now (I am a "now" type of guy anyways). I get to dance with said hot girls ( I may not be able to dance to anything else, but I can two step with the best of them). And did I mention I get to hang out with the best people in the world?

So you may be wondering what I meant by saying I was at "that point". All I am saying is that I have come to a point where I realize the stupidity of my life choices. And you know what? I am fine with them. I wouldn't have it any other way.

When my time comes, which will probably be sooner rather than later based on my behaviors, I will die having accumulated the best memories and friends anyone could ask for. Money can buy you a lot of things, but it can't buy friends or memories.

Now if I could just pay to recall some of those great times I just can't seem to remember ;) .

Besides, God knew what he was doing when he made me. I was born without a pancreas, appendix, or gallbladder. He knew. God gave me an extra kidney, liver, and bladder. He just...knew.

So by all means: go out tonight and do what makes you happy, even if it is not the "smartest" thing to do. And most of all remember to "drink up".
