I just got my ps3 and so far im happy with it. Its mainly for movies, though i got mgs4 and its fun but im a little lost since i never played any of the other games.

Anyways i have a couple questions.

1. My old dvd player remembers the spot where i left a movie when watching so if i watched an hour it knows exactly where i stopped. It even remembers movies that i haven't watched in over a year. Does the ps3 do this, even just moderately like the last bd/dvd that was in the drive? If not oh well but its still a nice feature.

2. The control panel when watching movies its really hard to see unless the movie is really really dark. Curious if there is a way to have a darkened background. I have searched all over for info on this and nothing. Also if i get the remote will i ever have to see that terrible menu again?

3. Lastly, any suggestions on really impressive looking blu-rays? Im thinking of picking up planet earth today, and have 2001 and Pan's Labyrinth. Just want some more stuff that really shows off blu-ray.

Thanks

I mainly just want the ps3 as a new blu ray player / dvd player. I wont be storing videos or music on it. And i wont be getting all that many games for it, if any except mgs4 for the time being. So i am basically telling myself that there is no reason for the 80 gig over the 40 gig model. Is there any differences I should be aware of other than the size of the harddrive? Or could it come back to haunt me that i only have 40 gigs?

Thanks

STALKER is free roam goodness...Bioshock is on-a-rail for all practical purposes

mrbojangles25

I wont disagree here but thats the style of the games. Most games are not free roam. Also Stalker i found did not do a great job of the free roam. I really hoped it would have had a fully open world not points that went to the next area.

STALKER has weapon upgrades, armor upgrades, and artifacts...Bioshock has plasmids which are essentially the same as guns only they come out of your hand
mrbojangles25

Bioshock had weapon upgrades. Though i thought they were kinda dumb but they still had them.

STALKER has a diverse selection of often-brilliant enemies...Bioshock has basically one bad guy that comes in three or so flavors
mrbojangles25

Well ya 3 types of splicers and 2 types of big daddies so yes i will agree here but bioshock does have 5 times more types of enemys then every single tom clancy game put together. 1 that is terrorist.

STALKER has I think four endings...Bioshock has two lame endings
mrbojangles25

All of stalkers endings were kinda bad and well so were both bioshock ones.

STALKER is challenging....Bioshock is easy enough for a six year old despite the M rating. You cant really lose in Bioshock.

mrbojangles25

Ya bioshock is easy you are right there.

STALKER encourages you to use everything in your arsenal...Bioshock encourages you to stick with whatever method works for you for the entire game.

mrbojangles25

I wont argue this either

STALKER has a great atmosphere....Bioshock also has a great atmospheremrbojangles25

I actually like stalkers atmosphere more then bioshocks but bioshock wins in the artistic section.

STALKER has a gorgeous atmosphere....Bioshock is pretty bland when you stop to smell the roses, tbh

mrbojangles25

ummm ok i cant agree here Bioshock is far from bland atmosphere. I remember loads of time stopping just to look around and how amazing everything looked.

STALKER has NPCs you can interact with and talk to, trade with, gain reputation with....Bioshock doesn't

mrbojangles25

Ya but those npc's really dont do much, have bearly any voice acting done. Reputation doesnt really mean all that much. Other than trading they are basically the same as the vending machines in bioshock

STALKER has side missions and diverse gameplay...Bioshock has a linear story not worth playing twice.

mrbojangles25

You mean those worthless side missions that arent worth any reason doing?

Im not trying to bash Stalker here but i had to stick up for bioshock there. Bioshock is a very good game and yes its easy but remember not everyone is super hard care l33tsauce whatever.. My bro rarely plays games but he loves bioshock same with a few others i know that dont have time to reload and play over and over.

I think i like bioshock more but i have played a lot more stalker. Bioshock was more of a really really fun ride but once its done its done. Stalker is more like a fine wine you have to enjoy it.

i did get a new vid card for thief and freespace back in the day. I also remember getting a new system for warcraft 2, hind and a few other games. WOW i miss hind i wonder just how horribly bad it looks now.

I recently got a new system but thats cause my old one is 5 years old it wasnt because of any real specific games.

Orange box is far from a hidden gem and i have it. This Mount and Blade looks interesting. Definitly a dated looking game but my interest is peaked by it.

You may realize that once you hit 70 you will continue grinding non stop for rep and the like and realize OMG this game is terrible and stop playing. I had quit before the expansion and tried again with the expansion got to 69 and just said screw it and left. I look back on WoW now and cant believe i played it. It was really fun when it first came out and nobody was high level and it was like a race. Now its just boring.

I just got my new pc last week and i have been looking for some games to grab. Im not looking for the triple A titles like bioshock or gears i have most of those, what im looking for are those hidden gems i may not know about.

I have stalker though every time i load a saved game it crashes on me :( Thats one game i miss a lot. Also i grabbed World in Conflict and Sins so that meets my strategy needs. I got the witcher off d2d a few days ago but i hate to say it im starting to get a bit bored of it. Im trying to like it cause it started off so well but im in chapter 2 and im begginning to get bored to death, ill keep banging at it here and there cause it may open up and get a lot better.

But im looking for an intelligent game. Maybe a new sim like silent hunter but i heard of a lot of issues with the 4th. Or a really engaging rpg but no idea what to grab.
