It wasn't only one bad experience with steam.
I had a copy of Counter Strike, I tried to registered the steam key, but it was tied to an account long time gone. At the time I did not know steam would become such a huge entity as it is now and it was tied to an old email account I no longer have access to. The representative told me I could just write the date, the case number provided, and my name on the counter strike manual with the code and submit a picture. I had done that, no contact after that.
I purchased a game that continuously crashed and I had asked for a refund. They told me it was not their problem and I had to deal with the developer. (Dungeon Defenders if anyone cared). I understand they distribute the game, but was hoping they would help me out there. After 4 hours of attempting to get the game to run and two days of contact with the steam rep. They just told me to try and fix the game with a list of options that I had already googled before. Yea, it could just be my PC, but my friend had some troubles with his copy as well.
I was once locked out of Steam for two weeks and was not sure why. I did not care at the time, but eventually it worked out. I still have my account going. *shrugs*
Again, I use steam from time to time, but I would prefer not to have my games tied to their services.
---- edit ----
Just curious, but does gamespot indicate which games are tied to steam if I was to browse through the PC section?
