to get the best possible sound out of ur soundsystem u have to match the impedance of ur speakers and reciever, or match there resistances, this gives maximum power transfer, when one is off like in ur condition it wont make a huge difference, but it wont damage anyting i dont think, u wont get the best possible sound. but i'm sure it wont damage the speakers
