[QUOTE="Krall"][QUOTE="IonEngine"]

I have downloaded FAH and am supplying some hopeful AMD X2 4800+ CPU support!

By the way, I have done some F@H before way back in 2003, but it was for GameSpy.

-What does my gig have!?!? AMD64 X2 4800+, 2GB DDR Corsair XMS(twinX), ASUS A8N32 SLI board, 2x eVGA GF 7900GT's CO SuperClocked 256MB, 2x 74GB WD Raptors, and SB Audigy 4...yes SoundBlaster made a 4th which is slightly lesser than the MUCH higher priced Xi-Fi.

Welcome to the team! :)

BTW, I'm pretty sure they are working on an nVidia client for folding, no idea on a ETA though.

And yes the PS3 uses it's Cell processor for folding and not the GPU. The client is suppose to be online sometime in March from what I've read.

That will be quite nice but is it only going to be for the 8 series since if so then it wont even matter to me lol. I need one for th 79GT. Honestly i wont even care if it isnt as efficient as the ATI just as long as it will give me a boost in doing the folding.

The problems they are having with the Nvidia cards are more centred around the 7 series not having enough shaders for their liking, hence the ATI only at the time(I'd be willing to bet also that ATI paid a chunk of cash to keep it that way)  however now that the 8 series is here from nvidia, they have no excuse to not release folding for nvidia gpus.  So unless ATI pays them again(if that was the case), we should see folding for Nvidia sometime in the future.

Hey guys, just joined the gamespot folding team.
I was wondering, has anyone thought of setting up a union within gamespot for the team? I'd be happy to set it up if people think it's a good idea. Just thought I'd check with you guys here before I went away and did it.

Yeah I like that idea, I got your invite to be a charter member, now just waiting for some more people to jump on board so we can get it rolling, and spread the word for FAH.

Best way to tell would be to measure the one that's in there now, and find dimensions for an ATX psu and compare.  Although most of those pre-built machines have proprietary power supplies, so you may be outta luck.

Yes the PS3 uses nvidia, but I think the folding for PS3 is going to use the cell processor more than it's GPU.  It doesn't matter cus the client for PS3 isn't out yet, maybe it due to the fact that they are having difficulties with the nvidia gpu.

[QUOTE="DirkVDV01"][QUOTE="_0V3RKI11_"][QUOTE="DirkVDV01"][QUOTE="_0V3RKI11_"]Ok, I'm confused, I did try to look through the board, but at about page 7 I gave up... I want to join, and I think my rig is going to waste just sitting here most of the time :P Couple of questions first though. I have a dual core, I know you can run two seperate F@H clients, one on each core, but have they made a multi threaded one? I think I heard something about being able to fold on GPU instead of CPU? Which would be better, E6600 (maybe as high as 3.6GHz) Or an X1950Pro?

I think you didn't look closely enough, your question has been asked in these posts already. I remember, since I answered a similar question a while ago. NVM, I'll answer your questions. Q1: You can always download CLI 2 clients (you can find them in the Download link at http://folding.stanford.edu ), place them in seperate directories and start them each from their own spot. You just got to answer some questions and make sure one client gets machine ID 1 and one client machine ID 2 (machine ID is the last question before the client starts) Q2: Only a selective range of GPU's can be used, you also need to use the special client you can find on the Download section. Read the same page as linked in Q1 to find more details.

So that means that there is no multi threaded versions then right? Is the X1950Pro viable to do folding? Which would be more efficient, E6600@3.6 (or as close to as I can get) or the X1950Pro? Are the beta folding codes for GPUs stable?

There IS a multithreaded version in beta. You can find it at the main website, just look at the text in the yellow box and follow the link. Read the instructions carefully and try.

Yes, there is a multithreaded version, the SMP client, however, it only works for Mac and Linux based machines, and by their confession it is only productive in systems with 4+ processors.(not 4 cores on one processor)

Edit: Checked the FAH website and it says it runs best on "4 core boxes."  So I suppose it is feasible to get this going on a linux based system with an Intel quad core processor.

[QUOTE="mr_smee_01"]The 1950pro is one of the supported cards.

As for which would be better, just run one GPU client, and one CPU client, that's what I do, and look where it's gotten me! :)
_0V3RKI11_
I may do just that! :P You know if I'm using one client a core, can they both be folding for the same username? Which also leads me to my next question, can I have both cores of my CPU doing a client each, and then my GPU also doing a client, all for the same username?

To answer your first question, yes, they can both be running for the same username.

As for the second:  Right now the GPU client isn't working as they intend it to, in that it takes up too much CPU time for you to use 2 CPU clients and the GPU client on a dual core machine with a supported GPU.  You can do it, but it slows all 3 down to a crawl, not just the 2 using the same core(I have tested it).  They admittedly are still working on it(it's still in beta afterall) and they have said they intend it to be an add on, not a replacement sort of deal.  For now, however, if you have the GPU client running, it needs to have one core fully devoted to it.  When(or if) they get it running as they intended it, the answer to your question would be yes, you could have 2 CPU and a GPU all running on the same machine under the same username, but for now, if you have dual core, it's only productive to have one CPU and the GPU client going at the same time.

Hope that answers your questions.
