So I just bought a HD7950 Gigabytehttp://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4367#ov

Before I install it ... I found on AMD site that the power requirements is a 500W power suppply ... while in Gigabyte site it says that it needs a 600W ..

so is it safe to install it on my current 500Watt power supply ? lol I dont have any more cash or credit in my wallet ....

Thanks for your replies ... but I have read that the 7850Stock performance is on the same level as the previous gen cards, and for the same price. In those terms it really does nothing new.

and at stock speeds it's fairly dull,

how far is it true ?

To be short I started building my gaming PCs since 1999 .....thats my time line :

1-RIVA TNT2 32mb which was an amazing Card ( stopped using it when it couldnt handle the NFS underground1)-1999 lasted ( 2 years )
2-Geforc2 MX400 64mb (a big dissappointment ...it was not a gaming card at all with poor Performance/Cost ratio)-2001 lasted (2 years)
3-ATI Radeon 9200 128mb ( was a nice one but did not last too long )-2003 lasted ( 3 years)

4- ATI HD 3450 256mb ( was a big dissapointment too but I could not afford any higher budget )-2006 lasted ( 2 years)
5- ATI HD 4850 1GB ( my Current GPU ...its a very nice one and still using it ; maxing all of my games on 19" (1440X900)res.)-2008 till now ( 4 years)

now the question is what should be my next upgrade that will last more than lets say ( 5 years ) with max efficiency considering that im not using a very high res. maximum 1440X900 as im not planning on getting bigger monitor ( Im happy with the 19" size)....

my specs are as following :
CPU :AMD FX-8120
Ram: 16GB DDR3
HDD : 2.0 TB

Mother board : Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
PSU : 500W cooler master
Budget : 230 $

Thanks in advance

I got a 19 " Samsung SyncMaster LCD and a HD4850 1GB (with Driver version 12.6 ); now the problem is whenever I try to set the resolution to the 1440X900 (which is the optimum resolution for this screen).

I get the vertical setting messed up ( I got a part of the screen blacked out from the top about an inch) and no matter how I try to change the setting of vertical either from the screen or from the ECC (Engine COntrol Center ) of the AMD ...I did not have this problem before it started when I got my win7 X64 installed

any Idea ?

System Specs :
Processor : FX-8120
Ram : 8GB DDR3
Card : HD4850 1GB
HDD : 2.0 TB WD Green
PSU : CoolerMaster 500W

So let me make sure I understand right .... the resolution im playing at (1440X900) will not save my HD 4850 from bieng outdated ? I mean that card was pretty solid when it hit the market considering its Price/performance ratio...did not met any problem till now playing ( Dishonered , Maxpayne 3 , Hitman Absolution , XCOM and others ...) at high settings

and if its outdated ; will the HD7850 or HD7950 be best for the next 4 or 5 years ? I dont wanna spend anymore money on gaming setups in the near future:?
