@blackwing55 They aren't only trying to get the core gamers to buy it, that's why you see more family friendly games than M rated ones. For the most part M rated games don't fare very well on handhelds. I think we are seeing a trend in all of gaming where the "Big 3" try to aim for the widest audience possible, and with parents today smarter about video games in general than my parents were they will know that GTA or COD is not for their little Billy to play.
@Razer361 I think it's a bit too late for that. I really wouldn't consider iPad, iPhone or iWhatever a direct competitor because the games they offer are cheap, easy to make and it's not primarily a gaming system. You won't find game like ACIII: Liberation or COD or Mario etc on those devices. Vita and 3DS are aimed more at people who want a little more than a time-waster on the go. As for the 3DS, it already has a vastly superior library even though games barely come out faster for it than for the Vita, is cheaper to obtain and does not use over-priced proprietary storage units and has a huge lead of about 20:1. I think most third party developers will gravitate towards the 3DS; even though it is not as powerful as a Vita it has a much larger install base and is where the money is. It's DS vs PSP all over again.
This looks great, but I must take umbrage with this person saying Zachary Quinto "knows Spock better than anybody". What's Leonard Nimoy, chopped liver?
@spazman44 No, he actually has discerning taste and can spot a terrible movie. You must be entertained by slamming the car door on your head repeatedly.
@cfstar Somebody's got to. Sure you could see this turd coming a mile away as could I, but there are people who may be looking for gifts for a gamer in their life that might want some info before making a blind purchase.
@BryanParksSuper Battleship is not a '90's thing seeing as I have vivid memories of playing it before then and a quick search tells me it was first released in 1967.
@spazman44 If it weren't for bad taste you'd have no taste at all. I had to bail on the movie not even half an hour in it was so terrible (and not in an "Ed Wood so-bad-it's-good" way, it was just a crappy film).
I'm in agreement with many here; sure a 6.0 doesn't mean that a game should be avoided, but my funds are limited and if an IP I am unfamiliar with gets an average score around 5-7 chances are I am not going to spend my money on it. If a Mario or Zelda game were to receive a 6 I would pick it up but something like Epic Mickey or NeverDead will have to wait until the price does down drastically if I get it at all.
The issue I have with Cloud Gaming is a similar issue I had with the password encrypted Catwoman levels in Batman: Arkham City. With Arkham City I didn't have a problem with it as an incentive to "buy new" as it were, but rather with the fact that you needed to have your console connected to the Internet to unlock these levels whether you buy new or not. My PS3 is connected to the Internet so it wasn't a problem for me, but what about the people who don't have their consoles connected to the Internet and bought new? S.O.L. The connection here is that with Cloud Gaming you naturally need to be online to join and play the games. What if my Internet goes down for a period of time? Those games I paid for are inaccessible to me. I pitched enough of a fit when the PSN got hacked and I was unable to play Final Fight Double Impact, which I paid for and downloaded onto my PS3. Cloud gaming is a viable option for some folks but should it become the Standard I will "tap out" of gaming, for these reasons and other reasons listed in this thread.
