A Chain of Good and Bad Events...

Okay...I guess you could say the chain starts with a good event way back in 2010...

To be exact, June 13th, 2010...

Falcon084 created a thread on the Mass Effect Universe union board titled: Alliance Intelligence

"Write your own stories about you or a character of your creation (not Shepard) with your own adventure in the Mass Effect Universe."

I already had a story brewin' in my head for a while before that post and now had a reason to actually start working on it...

So I did just that...or tried to, at least...I was trying to write a little every day...trying to get the story the way I wanted it...a lot of undoing and redoing entire paragraphs, character changes, scene changes; all sorts of changes...

The writing was going slow...then it picked up...then went slow again...before coming to a dead stop...

Almost 3 months after I started writing, I was somewhere between 80 - 90 percent finished...with the first chapter :|

Yeah...it was going slow...ssssllllllooooooooooowwww...

I guess what I would consider the first bad link in the chain of events was a Pyjak...

...yeah...those little space monkeys from Mass Effect :|

There was one little line that I wrote about a Krogan comparing another character to a pyjak in his mind but the way I wrote the line insinuated Pyjaks being indigenous to Tuchanka...which they are not...

Now, the line wasn't important to the story...at all...easily removable or replaceable...but for some reason it completely shut down my writing process! Ugh...

But then for some reason I started writing again...and finally finished the first chapter...

MORE THAN TWO YEARS AFTER I STARTED WRITING IT!!!

But I was finally getting it done...I had pretty much rewrote the entire first chapter and finished it in a week or two...and started working on chapter 2...the story just kept flowing out! (finally)

I had even worked out timelines for the main characters' lives whether any of it would even come up in the story or not...

This was back in late October/early November of last year...

Once again I'm almost finished with a chapter...chapter 2 is somewhere between 75 - 90 percent finished when...my computer dies...

I take it to a local repair shop and they pretty much say it's financially not worth it...I ask if there's any way to recover what's on the Hard Drive...I leave it with them for about a week and they're unable to access the data for some reason...spent $45 for nothing...could've gotten X-Com: EU with that money ...

Less than a month later I get another PC...one that's better in every way!

But I couldn't bring myself to start rewriting the story...I had gotten it pretty close to the way I wanted and just couldn't remember certain things or certain ways I worded things...

I start looking into ways to get the data off my old hard drive and figure I should buy an external hard drive enclosure case...not sure why it took so long but I finally bought one off Amazon a couple weeks ago...and when it showed up...

I got the wrong one...

I didn't realize hard drives came in different physical sizes and ended up getting one for a 2.5 inch hard drive...not too big of a deal; with shipping it only cost like 12 bucks...

After seeing the size difference between my HD and the enclosure (and looking into all the different sizes) I figured I needed to get the 3.5 inch enclosure...this one was more expensive...over $20...

This had to be the right one...I wasn't going to keep spending money on stuff I couldn't use...

Well...I got it yesterday...I had looked up how to handle hard drives and got really paranoid when I read that a little bit of static electricity could erase one...that would be my luck...go through all this and have it all undone with a little static shock...

Removing the hard drive from my old PC...it looked like I was trying to diffuse a bomb  I was so focused and moving so cautiously...sweat was pouring down my face (to be fair, it was a hot day) but I finally got it out...and saw something I did not like...my name along with the word Bad written on the hard drive...written by the PC repair guy who had looked at it...

Bad? The hd is bad? As in broken? Useless? Garbage? Completely dead and unusable? He didn't tell me it was trash and that trying to recover the data myself would be a waste of time (and money)...if he did, I would've just thrown it away...

Well, I put the 'bad' hard drive into the enclosure...it fit...barely...

I hooked it up and just hoped that this wasn't a really long wait all for nothing...I plugged it into the new PC...it was reading the new device...I clicked on the newly discovered drive and...there it was...my old username from windows xp...I clicked on it and looked for the documents folder...old files I had completely forgotten about were all just sitting right there...I find the story and open it up...a few seconds pass before the program I had used to create it opens up...

And there it was...just as I had left it...parts of the story were highlighted because I thought they could use some editing, rewording or all together be removed...the highlights were all still there...it was like nothing had ever happened...

I was able to move everything from my old hard drive to the new PC - documents, music, videos, irreplaceable pictures...

Got it all back...:D

So happy that I was able to recover everything! There were more than a few times I thought it was all lost forever...but it's not...

Making sure to invest in some flash drives, this time...just in case

...but...that's not the end of the chain...:?

Once again, I find myself with a lack of desire to write...:|

...yeah...hopefully, it won't take me another 2 years to find the desire to write again...

Jumping Back Into ME3 Multiplayer And Possible Eye Damage...

After 82 days, I finally started playing Mass Effect 3 multiplayer again...and I am not nearly as good as I used to be...I stopped playing a little while after I got my Best of the Best banner...at the time, I was playing Gold and matches regularly even soloing Gold...but after going so long without playing, I've gotten rusty...been playing Bronze matches and while I've been getting the top score most of the time, I'm aware that I'm not as good as before...ah well...workin' on it...

In other news, I've been getting these weird flashes of light in the side of my vision...like someone is taking a picture beside me...I looked it up and it turns out that that's a sign of retinal detachment...

If left untreated it could lead to blindness :?

Gee, thanks WebMD...you always know how to make me feel better...

Router Problems And Union Changes

Weird router problems today...I think it's fixed...somehow...but not sure...

If I go missing for a while, might be because of my router...might need a new one...

...

Oh, also, yesterday N7v1K0 resigned as leader of the Mass Effect Universe union here on GS and left me in charge

Back With A New PC

So my old piece of crap PC kind of...um...died...and I've been unable to go online since the beginning of the month...took it to a local PC repair shop and they pretty much said it would cost so much to fix it that it wouldn't be worth it...

So just got a whole new PC instead...for pretty cheap (black friday sales :D)

It's better than any of my old PCs...in like every way, I think...

An example, my previous PC (got it for free when a family member's workplace decided to get new computers and just toss out the old ones) Had like a 19GB hard drive and 256MB of ram... yeah...

This new one has a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of ram...I can finally watch hi-def videos!

Unfortunately, there's files that were on the old PC that were irreplaceable...I'm not even sure if they're still on the old hard drive or if that's dead, too...gotta' get some sort of external hard drive thing to see if I can move them...or if they're even still there...

Maybe I can even play some PC games I've been missing out on over the past decade :P

Well, There Goes Another Piece Of **** Xbox Controller...

Just spent the past 3 hours or so trying to fix my 'new' Xbox controller...

Not sure how long I've had this one...less than a year, I'm sure...

The right bumper started to become unresponsive...it would happen on and off...sometimes it would work just fine, sometimes not at all...

Well, it turns out that the right bumper is pretty damn important in all the games I play (grenades in Borderlands 2, powers in Mass Effect 3; etc.)

So I looked online for what the problem might be and how to fix it...

Needed a certain kind of screwdriver which I went out and bought...unfortunately, it was too short to reach the screws on the lower part of the controller

A few weeks go by and I'm looking for another screwdriver...one that can actually reach 'em...can't find any...

Finally go online to order some and they came in the mail today...

I immediately started working on my controller trying to fix the problem...

3 hours go by and I'm so frustrated! Whole bunch of bad stuff was going on while trying to fix my controller...

Still can't get the bumper to work right so I keep the controller opened up, plug it into the Xbox and try pressing the actual right bumper button that is on the inside of the controller...no response...left bumper working just fine...right bumper not working at all...

After all this time, I find out that it isn't the far more simple problem that most people seem to have with their 360 controllers, my right bumper button is just broken and I need a new controller altogether!

Too bad that even without the RB, this is my best controller!

My old controller's sticks don't reset...I guess...I stop pressing on the sticks and my character continues to slowly walk...if I'm in cover, he moves to the far left or right; makes grabbing enemies in ME3 so damn difficult...oh and the RB also has the problem of only working occasionally...

Over 2 Years Later, I Finally Finished Writing Chapter 1...

So I've had this story in my head that took place in the Mass Effect universe for quite a while...

Apparently, I actually started writing it on July 9th 2010...I had a lot of moments in the story kind of figured out in my head...but then there were also a lot of blank spots in terms of how I would reach those moments in the story...

I actually managed to get most of the first chapter done in the first day or two...but then a pyjack-related incident caused me to stop working on the story...

Yeah, seriously...pyjacks destroyed my momentum...:|

Over the past couple years, I've been making some little tweaks to the story in my head here and there...but it wasn't until yesterday that I actually began writing it again...

Had to re-download the program I was originally using to start writing it again (because of the file type)

But after over 2 years, I finally finished the first chapter...well, mostly...just need to make a few little adjustments; rewrite a few sentences, removing lines and/or paragraphs; etc.

Shouldn't take too long...but other than that, chapter 1 is finally done...I can start writing chapter 2...that's where the story really starts to form...

Just Beat Borderlands 2...

Been playing it the past 5 days...

Tuesday was pretty much: Wake up, pick up Borderlands 2, play for 9 hours, eat dinner, watch a recorded show, play for another 4 hours, go to sleep.

And that's mostly been what the past 5 days have been like...except for picking up Borderlands 2, of course...only did that on tuesday :P

Probably would have beaten it sooner but I was trying to do all the side missions first...problem with that was everytime I turned in a side mission, even more would pop up...so, I finally said 'screw it' and just focused on the main story missions...

I love this damn game! It was everything I was hoping it would be...and more!

Right now, I'm a Lv35 Commando...also a level 8 or 9 Gunzerker (when playing with my nephew)

Gonna' try to finish the rest of the side missions before I start the new game plus mode (True Vault Hunter Mode, I think it was called)

...Except for one mission: You.Will.Die (SERIOUSLY)

You Will Die brings back memories of Crawmerax...ugh...and I'm guessing whatever this one is will be even more difficult...the recommended Level is 50 so I think after I finish up the other side missions, I'll start NG+ and give it a shot once I reach Lv50...

Now, I think I'll go to sleep...and maybe when I wake up, I'll try to do the current Operation for ME3...and then more Borderlands 2...

After 4 Years...It's Done...

I got my Xbox360 back in September 2008...

The first game I played (Hexic doesn't count) was Mass Effect...the second game was Grand Theft Auto 4...

Yesterday, I finally got 100% on GTA4  4 years after I first played it...

There's still some multiplayer achievements left to get but I don't plan on getting those...100% in the single player campaign is enough for me...

And after those 4 years, I also finally started playing one of the games that came with the 360...Kung Fu Panda...

I Think My Graphics Card Is Dying...

PC keeps having problems...

Every morning I have to make a few attempts to start it up...screen keeps turning pink and green...and stuff...only on start up, though...once it can actually make it through the start up, it works just fine...but if I stop posting for a while, that's probably why...
