TP actually DID change the "formula" if you want to call it that.
In TP, the game starts slow, prior to anything happening for several days, in every previous Zelda, the game starts right as a kidnapping or a theft or the death of an ancient tree occurs.
TP is linear, forcing you to follow the path laid beforee you (Head back and forth through Ordon Forest killing bugs, then go to kakariko and repeat thrice), as soon as you leave Kokiri Forest in Ocarina, the world is open to your leisure and whim. WW and MM are similar to each other, rigid, but somewhat open.
TP shuffles you from the end of one dungeon almost immediately into another with little to do in between, thus the dungeon-crawler feel.

The beginning of OoT was slow. You had to go around and find your sword and shield before you could do any thing. Sher it's not as slow as TP, but it is slow the first time though. Also OoT, ALttP, LA, and the Game Boy games were all linear. It may seem like there is a lot to do when you first step into Hyrul field in OoT, but all that you can really do is go to the castle. The only Zelda that I can say was nonlinear was the first one, because you can beat the dungeons in any order. I'm not sure what needs to be done, but I feel that some thing needs to be changed for the next game.
Everything up to this gen.......and this is off topic for this board.LJS9502_basic
